The brand new Husky 545 got its first fuel and first test today ! Really cold and snowing up here today.... Perfect cutting weather !
I wanted to start off by saying that this is only a start to this review... As i hope to give a long term test.
For starters... There always seems to be problems warm starting these monkeys. I have to say that most times its operator error. My girlfriend has a 550 xp... So we have had plenty of practice on the proper way !!! This saw has no cold or warm starting issues whatsoever.
I can tell this saw is gonna loosen up and run better and better. Only ran 2 tanks... And it already is running better.
Unlike the GF's 550 xp.... This saw needed no time to " figure" out how to run correctly. The auto tune seemed to have it all figured out before it came out of the box.
If left to idle a few seconds... It has a very slight hesitation when the throttle gets stabbed.... Same as the 550xp
Flippy caps on a Husky are goooood :)
This saw hates ash trees badly :)LOL
The 550 xp has a little more snap and high rev power. BUT.... Its hardly noticable when compared to the 545..and certainly makes me wonder why the 550 xp costs as much as it does.
Dex finally pounded into my head that the all orange of a 545 is better than the less durable grey on the 550xp :) He was right !
The balance and handling on these saws cant be compared to any other saw... Past or present IMO.
So..... So far so good. Im glad i didnt spend the extra clams on a 550 xp for myself. The 545 is right there in all aspects.
Lets see if this 545 can fill the big shoes of my old trusty Husky 350 :). I somehow think this new 545 wears its own big shoes :))))) image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Nice saw Fuzz, I just sold one to a customer, I hope he finds the saw as good as his old 353 E-Tech!

You had to show the 271 with it didnt ya. ;) :(

I'm happy with the used 340 TH I picked up to use instead since I didnt want to cough up for new.

The 545 seemed to chase the tune more then the 550 I had. Not much difference in the cuts with 3/8. Can see rev boost on 550 with tach but not needed for our uses IMO.

PHO from spike60 the 545 was $400 to my door.

Good looking saw, thats the same one I was favoring to replace my 350 then I found the sell out deals on the stihls. I too like the all orange suit, please continue your review not a lot out there on the 545. Less clams is good :)

Same reason I think I'd go with the 555 over the 562
About the same saw, but less $$

Absolutely . Its a no brainer . Im even comparing a nice tight and new 545 against a very much broke-in 550xp . The 545 is still the way to go . From what I can tell.........you pay $100 more for grey paint and XP badging :)

    X2.. Good review Fuzz!!

The orange looks much better in my opinion. Plus, the grey (looks good to) wears off within a few hours of use.

Cut4fun added his photo, but I will add another. That $100 is better left in your pocket. As for MSRP? If you contact Tlandrum (here and AnotherSite) or Spike60 (on AnotherSite), they will give you a much better deal than what a standard dealer wants..

Spike60 also can be contacted from my site. Just in case you dont like going to AS like alot of folks. ;)

Thought I better change that wording. Just in case big brother sees. Dont want Husky getting mad at dealers.

The 562xp does have larger trasfer covers than the 555.
But the 545 & 550xp have the same motor, diff carb & coil though.

I have both a 550XP and a 545. When I go out in the woods I take them both and use one or the other interchangeably. They have identical bars and chains. The 545 came from Spike and I've never had any trouble with either one except I have to put gas and oil in them and sharpen the chain every so often.

I'm surprised nobody on here is a legit dealer for Stihl and/or Husky... And offering on FHc. Do they not allow that?
