Ok fellas.....first off.....I'm not a saw rebuilder by any means.....but I wanna start learning more....so nows the time ! I have read numerous threads on AnotherSite...over and over again....on how to upgrade and fix the Husky 340..345..350..etc. I think I've got the best info anyone could have...from very good pro builders.... So here's this winter's candidate...my first saw .....that I bought brand new....An earlier Husqvarna 350. 44mm...open port....flat top piston. I used this saw up until abt 2009 ish....when it got the famous air leak symptoms So i shelfed it....got a Husky 450.....then got this madness of having a revolving door chainsaw policy !!! Lol But anyway....I've cut so much wood...and cleared my property with this saw...that it deserves a complete going over. .and to be used every now and then. So my plan....is to tare it completely down . I wanna replace the crank seals...the carb boot...and upgrade to the metal clamp. Reseal the base riser too. The piston and cylinder...I'm not sure till I open it up. Still showing well over 150 psi....so I might just clean it up...put on a new ring..delete the base gasket .... But.....if it doesn't look right..maybe convert to a 346xp top end Here's the old girl
Notice the space heater behind the saw....didn't hardly take the edge off last night...about 9 degrees and this weird white stuff too .......
Rebuilt mean you make a saw screws, nuts, and parts, and you start to assembley all theese pieces and you dont forget to upload photos or videos UNDERSTAND ???
Yes sir lol ! Didn't make me mad...made me smile ! But....I do need yelled at from time to time....so don't hesitate
Nice Fuzz, my first saw was a 351, I toasted it due to the intake boot as well. Found AS, and developed a mild case of CAD. Rebuilt it with a 346xp OE jug and aftermarket slug. Wouldn't mind owning another if I come across one at the right opportunity.
So I started the tare down today.... These saws are prone to having the muffler rattle off.....but noooooo....not mine......actually stripped the Allen heads....so out came the vise grips....and a little bit of heat. So now I need new bolts ! But...whats done is done I guess ! They sell complete muffler kits....that include a front brace btacket...for cheap .
Decided that it looked easier for me to just pull the cylinder off with carb attached....Disconnected the wires at the coil...and off with the whole deal ! Piston looks burnt..and scuffed. Definetly a chance to use a Meteor setup ! The cylinder.....well...I think it'll clean up....but won't be upset if I have to buy a 346 kit
I'm glad to have the Walbro carb Time to loosen up those pesky problem bottom bolts....which of coarse come off very easy ! Now the riser pops off.....couple of light taps with a rubber mallet...and the crank pops right out.... A little concerned about the pitting on the crank seals..especially the clutch side. Getting replaced anyway !
And here it is...an empty...DIRTY ...bare carcass !! I obviously have alot of cleaning to do !! I tried to keep everything as organized as I can.....I took about 50 pics too lol !! That's it for today...thanks for watching my boring thread lol More to come soon I hope !!
Forgot to add.....when I got this saw...I was 19 or 20 I guess......basically still learning how to do it right. But long before that....My dad had a shelf full of old..old top handled saws that they used for cutting openings for there chimneys to go through ! When I was about 14 or so...I had been buggin him that I wanted to learn to saw. So he laughed and said...if u can get any of those old saws up and running..I'll teach you. Little did he know..I fumbled and stumbled....and got an old McCulloch Pro Mac 40 I think it was.....running pretty good.....so good..that I got most of the others going too ! So I limbed..and he bucked the Firewood. So finally....we decided we were gonna sell Firewood..as we were laid off from being masons in the winter . this would keep us busy..and make a little cash too ! Well the old Mac wasn't gonna cut it....so my Dad called my uncle...who was a Husky dealer at the time....and had a brand new Husky 350 Chainsaw delivered to me to use. What an upgrade I tell ya !!! It stated every time.....cut like crazy....and was just easy to use !! I had that saw paid off from selling wood asap ! So as I was cutting by myself one day.. I was flush cutting a Stump.....when the little pull string on the bottom of my Carhart coat...got pulled into the recoil....actually pulled my saw around...close to my leg....but thank goodness I had a new saw with a chainbrake ! What a weird deal ! Broke a rib out of the recoil..and bent and fractured a fin on the flywheel. I just now..today...went to gently bend it back into place....when Snap !! Off it broke. Looks like I'll be looking for a new flywheel too Thanks for listening to my old long time ago story ! Lots of memories with this saw Nice to remember and share
I think all I have left for this series is a muffler, (might still the have bolts) and a side cover/chainbrake.........
Btw the way...old040 is my inspiration for doing this right now ! He let me pizz rev a very special..built..350 that he owns ...the other day. All I could say was "wow dude !"
