Had this beast for just about a year now,always popped on 1st or 2nd pull,running on 3rd or 4th when cold.1 pull warm.Couldn't ask for it to run any better.Excellent compression (its an arm breaker,especially after setting for a while). So here's the deal - Used it about 2 weeks back to finish milling the last big White Oak round that tree service dumped in backyard last December.Worked great then.Next afternoon had a couple small cuts to make -cutting up the slabs/scrap to add them to the stacks.Was getting low on fuel but was enough to finish even though it hesitated a little.Finished up,shut the saw off. Didn't use it until yesterday morning,wanted to slice up a 2 year old 16" diameter Cherry round for more lathe blanks,have a few left from original tree service score. No spark,even after pulling the rope 7-8 times...Just floods now of course. I always use clean fresh (no more than 2 months old) 40-1 mix. Removed top cover,starter housing,checked everything over.No loose wires that I could see,spark plug looks good,correct gap etc.Other than airbox being a bit dusty,couldnt see anything out of the ordinary. Thinking the coil might be toast,but not entirely sure.Is it normal for them to go bad all of a sudden,or is that more ''gradual"? Before I bite the bullet & call local Husky dealer tomorrow I wanted some opinions here first................
Looks like you did the trouble shooting and narrowed the trouble. I'm not s huge saw guy but does husky have a trouble shooting link on their site? Arborist site may have some husky guys. Good luck
Pull the kill switch wire and check for spark first. Check with different spark plug as well. Check resistance from plug boot to ground on progressively higher settings(analog meter) if open - then the coil is shot.
Thanks. Since this old beast is a 1983 model,I'd be surprised if the Husky website mentions it at all.
Start simple, get a new plug. I had a year old mower that suddenly quit, would restart and die. Pulled and tore down the carb, pulled the head twice, etc. finally bought a new plug and started on the first pull.
I would eliminate all of the kill switch wiring before pointing to the coil. Is this a one or two piece ignition?
Put a different plug (not new but close) from different saw that works perfectly & no change.Have to look again to see if its a 1 or 2 piece ignition.Its much different than my 288XPW,on that saw the coil is totally accessible once you remove the starter housing.On the 2100CD Its mostly hidden by the flywheel.
For those who aren't familiar with them -here's a couple vids of how they look/sound.That earth shaking rumble is unmistakeable...... No difference in displacement between the 2100/2101 series - 2101 is newer model with chain brake,a couple cosmetic changes.Production stopped in 1990.
Good advice above and sounds like you had a good Round of Troubleshooting already. The 2100 and 288 are some of the most regarded Husq saws. Definitely no mistaking the sound Keep us updated on your progress
Sure wish I knew more of the specifics about these saws. Can't be of much help when it comes to Huskies older than the 272/262 era.
Think I cured it - Stuck a piece of old sock in carb venturi,blew out what little dust was in airbox & unplugged kill switch wire. Put covers back on & it popped on first pull,took 4-5 pulls before it cleared out & would keep running since it was flooded on Saturday morning. No big deal,will keep that switch unplugged & use choke to kill it for the time being.My 288 has a funky switch occasionally also.Same with the Mac 125C.Have to do the same with them,its not a major hassle. At least its back working like it was!
Seems to be fine now,1 pull it pops when cold,2-3 pulls its running.Occasional backfire during a heavy cut,that never happened before.Not sure if that means misfiring or what. Gonna put a carb kit on it pretty soon anyway,it could probably use one by now.
