I'm not personally familiar with the model. A little searching suggests it's discontinued but not terribly old.

I recently acquired a backpack blower myself without really planning to, because it popped up in a search for chainsaws and the price was too good to pass up. It seems a little silly since my property is so small. I expected to just sell it (or trade it for a chainsaw!) but when I tried it out I suddenly wanted to install permanent storage hooks for it in the garage. I was just blowing some grass clippings off the walkway at my front door, and my rain-soaked welcome mat became airborne and started to fly away! It would make raking leaves in the fall a lot less of a chore, which is good because my yard is occupied and surrounded by big trees. I could loan it out to neighbors, and they would all love me and forgive me for the racket my saws make! My whole life could be so much... oh, sorry, I got distracted there.

The switch is in the handle that's mounted on the hose nozzle, so there's a long pair of wires going back to the motor. It could be that one of those wires is broken or a connection loose, in which case the fix could be cheap and easy. I glanced at some parts diagrams and it looks like the switch and the long wires are sold together and are rather pricey, so that's something to consider/negotiate with the seller in case the switch itself is shot. I'm not sure, but I think this is the part.

From what I've read, there are big differences in the performance of various models, and some really don't do well for heavier tasks like moving wet leaves. Another blower, a small Echo model, had shown up on CL for super cheap a few weeks earlier and I briefly considered it, but passed when I found a lot of frustrated comments about it on a couple of landscapers' forums. Of course, pro landscapers probably can't help working in less-than-ideal conditions so they're stuck cleaning up yards when everything is damp and heavy whereas I, as a homeowner, can usually just wait until it all dries out. Looking at the specs, the one you're considering is considerably less powerful than the one I lucked into, so you may have to get closer to the welcome mat before it lifts off.

The switch should be pretty easy to diagnose - if you decide to buy it. Check continuity from each lead at the switch to the block should be a few ohms or less, if not you have an open wire or bad connection. If they check out good then check across the switch they can be cleaned on occasion with some contact cleaner and cycling the switch multiple times
The only draw back on back pack units is user versatility. Don't expect your wife to picking it up and throwing it on her back;) but they will put a hand held unit to shame

Here's a Google search that should tell you all you need to know about the model. Multiple threads on lawnsite.com suggest it's reliable, lightweight and good for light cleanup but underpowered for large leaf-moving tasks. The dates on those threads make it sound like the 145 was available new from around 2003-2007, so that gives you an idea of its age -- a little older than I would've guessed.

The first blower is a Kaz or Kawasaki blower. Very popular and I have seen it in at least 3 different colors. Reliable, easy starting and good power. $125 would be ok if it was 100% but needing a switch I would want it a little cheaper. ;)

The second is a RedMax/Husqvarna and should be a superior machine but at twice the cost......

I have a bad-azz backpack and a top-shelf handheld blower as well. The backpack sits unless I have a big job to do (leaf cleanup) otherwise I grab the HH every time. You could buy an excellent handheld blower for around $200 (low-vibe, good ergos) if you don't really need the power of a backpack. Having to strap in just to clear grass clippings off the front walk gets old.

I was wondering when you would chime in cuz I know you have used a few
I need a good powerful blower
I have leaves and seeds and all kinds of crap falling around here all year long, trees on all sides, plus I'm at a dead end Street here and I'm the only one that keeps the whole turn around deal in front of my house cleaned up and lookin good

If you have 15-20 minutes worth of work to do or more then the backpack is a good option and will have extra power available for heavy jobs in the spring/fall. For my 5 minute tour after I'm done mowing, I can't be bothered to strap in even if it is kinda fun sending the Welcome mat two houses up the street.

Im thinking its splined. I tuned it when i bought it but havent had to touch it since.

If you dont have a splined, you can easily make one with a small screwdriver, electrical butt connector and some super glue.

Great blower.....super quiet and tons of power without alot of weight.

I do have a splined tool, and because it is a referb it may need adjustment
    ,.
Bought it from vinnovations, $117,with 10 bucks off $207 shipped
What's the best way to tune this? Tac?
Run it up to blurp and back it off?

It may come just fine because it has been back to the factory.

I imagine it has limiter caps. So just adjust all the way out and see how it runs.

I tuned it like a saw without a tach

I'm not an expert here, but I would think you'd want to adjust a blower to 4-stroke then back it off until it cleans up since the engine is always under load. That's how mine is adjusted and it's worked fine for years. I had to retune it a bit after I muffler modd'd it by removing the screw-in spark arrestor.

Blowers can be set to max RPM and perhaps a tad richer if desired.
