I have noticed that I am only using about 1/4 of a tank of oil for every tank of fuel. I took the blade off and cleaned out the oil passage ways. I wonder if I need a new oiler? I'm wondering if this one will work? https://amzn.to/3FKCa3a My saw takes a 80 Links Pitch .325 Gauge .050 chain which seems like an odd size.

I didn't see anywhere to adjust the flow. Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Paul

The oiler on my 450 went to crap while it was under the warranty I bought. Luckily the fellow installed a metal oiler instead of the junk plastic one they come with. I also run a 18” x .058 and I feel like it oils better. 1/2 tank to full tank of fuel.

I don’t think the oiler is adjustable on the 450. Just replace with better quality. My 455 uses 1/2+ tank of oil per tank of fuel.

I don’t think so. A 20” is simply too much for these saws. Not capable to provide enough oil. I asked far too much from my 450 for awhile. Had to upgrade. Nice tool for limbing and certain jobs

I agree i had a 2015 450 xtorq with 20 in bar and had alot of repeat trouble…the chain would always jump off and rip the clutch apart or damage the cover..i think the fact that 450s only have 1 bar nut mite have sumthing to do with it idk…after getting it repaired twice after very light use i finally said heck with mine and sold it for 200 bucks on Facebook marketplace…sold it in two days after listing it….

I run a 22 year old 55 rancher with a 20'' bar , uses 1/2 tank of oil to a tank of fuel . I keep my oil and saw in the house in cold weather and leave the oil jug in the truck while cutting.

I've never had it freeze but have had it too thick to even pour . I think they make a winter oil as well. I'm cheap so just keep what I have warm . zone 7 central Va isn't all that cold compared to some of you in the north.

I bought a new oiler and shaft and it still doesn’t use much oil. Would it be ok to try motor oil? Also does the oil only come out when the saw is level. I was doing a lot of vertical cutting yesterday and it still used about the same amount

Motor oil not a good idea. It has no tackifiers so it mostly slings off the tip. Stick w/ dedicated stuff. Not out of the ordinary, most new saws don't oil a lot. Your saw can be any orientation and oil will still flow to the bar and chain.

Hate to say this, but that’s a major downfall to the 450. Can’t really get around it. I wouldn’t use motor oil

I have winter grade bar oil for when it is really cold but rarely need it. I did use it a couple weeks back for the first time in years , when it was opened I wrote a date on it ; year says 2014. Nine out of ten times if it is that cold there is no cutting for me.

The 450 is a 18 inch bar saw at best 3.2 hp is really at its limit with a 20 did you check your oil filter in tank? if they get clogged the pump cannot move enough oil I do not know if you have a EFCO chainsaw dealer near you their winter grade oil works real well also Kinetic bar oil winter grade flows well the 450 is a completely different saw than the 455 or the older 55 rancher saws I will call the service line today at husky and see if you have any options on a better oiler Stay Tuned !! :popcorn:I will let you know JB
