I saw this online, any truth in it? Anyone here actively compare the 2, if so, what results have you found. Thanks in advance.

Moisture content in wood is definitely impacted by RH, however the change is not rapid. Those changes take a while to occur.

If you have a digital scale sensitive to a gram you can easily measure the moisture coming and going in a piece of covered wood between sunrise and sunset and the next sunrise or over the course of a few rainy wet or sunny dry days. You see the weight go up by a few grams overnight as the RH rises and re-lose a similar amount during the day when its sunny (presumably lower RH as it will be warmer. If its raining and the RH is presumably up your wood will gain weight.

Here in Wales the humidity has been over 90% for a few weeks now, so I’m guessing my wood (which is split and under cover) will be over 20% moisture content now . I’m hoping for a moister meter for Christmas so I’ll find out Christmas Day. It’s for a chiminea in the garden so it’s not so bad.
