I bought the stove last summer used, the previous owner said they broke the glass in 2012 and had it replaced.
I did replace the door gasket but the glass gasket looked ok to me but, I don't have much experience so I ask, what say y'all

How often? Only when it needs to be changed out. Same with all gaskets. It falls into the category of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I like the way my friend says that phrase...if it ain't broke don't break it.

The door gaskets on our model are a bit annoying. We're on our 2nd one but didn't install it correctly the first time. As for the glass gasket, don't change it unless there's an issue (leak, wrong fit, etc.)

    Evidently I misunderstood.
I thought it was "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is".
    Explains a few things.:D

Well it doesn't look broke so I will leave it alone, that way I can't screw it up ;)

I never changed out my glass in the Jotul Oslo, I had it 9 seasons and it stayed fairly clean. It was tight the entire time.

On the other hand, you could change it out just for the practice!

I know for a fact my 1900p needs a window gasket....the telltale signs are when you get a little creosote in the corner of the glass, it's cold, humid air hitting the gasified wood smoke......

It'll be 7 years with that stove , running it nonstop from early October til early May, and I haven't touched any gaskets yet, so It's due....

An certain executive at Blaze King told me to place a palm on either side of the glass, and see if I could wiggle it around.

Not sure if that would apply to other stoves.

Well it does move ,up n down and side to side.
Seems to me it should not do that.
Should I try to tighten it or just replace the gasket ?

Also put new door gasket on last year ,all was good ,now dollar bill slides out pretty easy only across the top

Does the glass get dirty like it is sucking cool air? I guess you could try the incense/cigarette smoke thing.

Dirty glass isn't an indicator of a problem in a BK :rolleyes:According to the expert, cold air infiltration is the number one cat killer, so I keep a pretty good eye on it.

No the only time the glass gets really dirty is the bottom corners when I burn small loads

I get dirty glass in corners but I think its from slow burns. I replaced the gasket last year and the prior year but the first time the glass wasnt as tight and the gasket loose in places so last year I did it again . I had to put 2 gaskets in there to get it as tight as I like. I am satisfied now. They didnt have a thicker gasket at my store if one is even made, which is why I doubled it up. Still tight this year o think. I did have to tighten the glass holder screws at some point last winter as the heat/cool cycles loosened them.

Just changed my door and window gasket on Saturday. Had the stove for around 4 years now. I change the door gasket every year. The window gasket had deteriorated so badly in some spots that air was clearly entering. I reckon the failure of the window gasket was due to me shoving as much wood into that little stove as possible and closing the door glass against the wood numerous times. This is where my future NC30 comes into play! I need a bigger stove!

BTW - I purchased some of this gasket from here. Adhesive backed and wrapped around the glass well. Was really easy to do, just don't over tighten the tabs holding the glass. This wasn't the exact brand that my stove manual recommended but the width and thickness were right on and the price wasn't bad.
