Ok so been burning off and on and loving the stove. Wife called me today saying she woke up had a bloody nose and cracked lips and what not. Now I have two humidity readers one in stove room and one in our bedroom. Seems to fluxiate between 45-60. The ideal home humidity is around 40-50. I have a whole house humidifier rated for 3600 sqft which is double what I have. So how can I regulate the humidity which reads good on my units but is obviously to dry for my wife?
Very good question. My wife complains of dry skin and headaches all winter. I've been able to keep the humidity level around 30-35 with a BIG pot of water on the 30, but it's gone as low as 20.
Hanging clothes in the stove room from the washing machine helps, as well as a big pot like Dave said. It does get dry during the winter and all
If you have a humidifier make sure you put a new filter thing in it every year. I used to bleach mine to make sure it was clean and re-use it. Dont do that, as what happens, is it might be clean, but the mineral deposits in the fibers keep it from absorbing water. So then the humidifier struggles to keep the humidity up in the house.
I've got one that hooks to my furnace. It turns on once every hour or two and runs for a few minutes to check the humidity. If it is fine it shuts off. If it's low it calls to the unit and it starts putting water into the air. When it gets to the level I set it at it shuts off. Works pretty well. I still have a separate small misting humidifier in the stove room though.
I got this one guess I will just have to try and run it a tad higher then I have been see if it works. AIRCARE, 3.6-Gal. Evaporative Humidifier for 3,600 sq. ft., MA1201 at The Home Depot - Mobile
Ive traveled to Namibia three times. I leave the incredible humidity of a North Carolina summer and two days later I'm in the bone dry desert. The first few days are rough. Chapped lips and nosebleeds. Aggressive use of Chapstick helps. Vaseline or Chapstick around the nostrils can help. After a week or so my body adjusts and it isn't bad. She may be adjust. Of course women worry about dry skin so you may be stuck. Being of Italian descent dry skin is the least of my worries. I don't humidify in the winter other than incidental moisture from cooking. It is usually well below 50% and I've seen single digits. After our summers I look forward to it.
I've bottomed out our hygrometers at 16% during the winter. I like it dry. If your meters show above 50% then you're done, the house is fine. Her problem, if it persists, may be caused by her travels outside the home.
Seems like you have the humidity in normal limits. Maybe she needs to be checked out by her doctor to see what may be her issue and what they might suggest. Humidifiers are really useful, but they can harbor a lot of germs. They need a really good and faithful cleaning schedule.
x2 on doc and poss outside source. And same here highbeam, we are in single digits up to 25% if I am lucky, that with 2 humidifiers and an aquarium. It's been raining here for 2 days and I am at 21% RH.
