I picked up a CountyLine 25-ton a couple months back with a 10% offer we got through the rewards program at Tractor Supply. I’ve got about an hour of runtime on it (and man is it a game changer!) but I’d like to install an hour meter before I start running it in earnest. I got a Hardline digital hour meter/tach off Amazon.

Wondering if anyone here has put one of these or something similar on this splitter or one like it. Anyone want to take a photo of where they mounted theirs?

Yes , I put one on my splitter , and push mower , my zero-turn came with one. They are the induction type that the signal wire wraps around the spark plug wire.
I love them and think it was a great investment at right around $10 from e-bay or amazon. It really helps keeping track of how long things actually run.

If I split for ( oh lets just say 4 hours ) how many of those 4 hours did the splitter actually run , some of that time was most likely spent cutting , moving logs or stacking and the splitter was shut off. Great to track " actual " time run.

I put mine right ahead of the pivot point for the beam. That way I can set the throttle to what RPM I want because it's right by the engine.
I've found that 2,700 is the sweet spot for the least vibration with the Honda engine.

Here's where I installed it on my CL 40ton.

I'd be really worried about the vibration mounting it right on the engine. Electronics don't like that.

It's where I have always mounted them. I want the wire running in a place where it's out of sight so it won't be caught and ripped out when splitting. I also wanted the meter itself in a place where it won't be subjected to getting hit. Especially on something like a log splitter where pieces are dropping all the time. I actually specifically only mount them on the engine for those reasons, at least on log splitters. I have one on my old Speeco now for 10 years which is mounted on the engine. Hell, I've have them mounted on two of my chainsaws now for almost 10 years. LOL Solid state electronics are pretty stout.

I don't need easy visible access to the display on the one on my splitter, as I run high idle all the time when using it and then low idle before I shut it off and when I start it. So I set my high idle rpm where I want it when I initially set the machine up and then just have to move the throttle to full when it's being used.

It was hard to find a place on my CL, as there were so many curved surfaces. This is about the only place I found where I was comfortable putting a couple small holes.

Thanks guys. That was very helpful.

Finally got a chance to mount mine this afternoon. I put it under the airbox facing front. I'll do some splitting on the next sunny weekend to see how it works.
