I know it ain't firewood related......but it 'tis indeed OPE....

Scored this sucker for the unbelievable price of.......$0.

Same guy that gave me the John Deere x300 ride on mower.....

Same guy that gave me the Husqvarna backpack leaf blower.....

Same guy that gave me the gas Poulan Pro single stage snowblower....(I gave this to a buddy of mine)

Yes sir! I bought a set of 10" straight steel ramps from HarborFreight in order to transport this in my Tacoma. Those worked perfectly for this application. Used two 1" ratcheting straps to secure the ramps to the tow hitch. First time doing that ever.

Tried starting it and it started then died quickly. I suspected lousy fuel so I sat there with a turkey baster and took my time and got rid of the old gas. As you can see it was nasty. Put some fresh fuel in and she started right up!!

Haven't had time to look at it further other than notice a) the headlamp works fine and b) the lever for the chute control (up and down) does not do anything. May have to replace the wire but I will see.

9 HP, 28" width, track drive. This thing will be a beast! And just in the nick of time.

Anyone else have one of these? I am not sure how old it is but it doesn't look like it was used too often.

I will do an oil change and perhaps a hydraulic fluid change.

Once I verify this guy is 100% functional I will look to most likely donate the Troy Bilt 24" 2-stage blower I've had for more than dozen years.

You lucky dog! Those things blow snow farther than anything else I've seen.

Of all the older snow blowers, they are the most impressive imo. They called them "dog eaters"

There's an air filter housing on this snowblower so I was like "Ok let's pop that open and see what the filter looks like...."

Well I done learned something new today......And I guess it makes sense that when using a snowblower there really isn't going to be too much dust flying around and maybe it will attract moisture and freeze more than it would filter out dust. And it also makes sense that they use this same engine on other machinery (log splitter, wood chipper, who knows) that is used during the warmer months and then they would include an air filter.

Changed the oil. It looked pretty watery and thin.

Also the shear bolts that were on there were way too long. I saw a video and it looks like those are the bolts for the impeller shaft, not for the augers. I'll have to use some shorter bolts. One was just dangling and of course I saw this shiny new nut yesterday on the driveway just outside the garage and was like "What the heck is that???" and proceeded to NOT pick it up like a dummy.......

I'm going to take the augers off and grease up the shaft to the impeller as well. The PO said a piece of carpet got sucked up in there (hence the lousy attempt at replacing the shear pins).

Greased up the mechanical auger and teeth of the chute rotational mechanism with some Red 'N Tacky #5.

I put a capful of Lucas Fuel Injection Cleaner in a bottle and squirted some gas in there, gave it a shaky shake and put it back into the fuel tank. Hopefully that cleans up the carb a little.

Will also drain the hydrostatic fluid and replace.

Looks like the chute wire is broken near the lever. Unrepairable. $19 on eBay. Genuine part. Should be here shortly. Will pick up 3 bottles of the hydrostatic fluid at the local dealer tomorrow. Ordered 4 shear bolts, 2 locking nuts, and a crush washer for the transmission drain plug.

Its actually mesmerizing to watch. If I go back to a Walk behind blower, a Honda is the only option I'll consider. Hydrostatic drive and tracks.

Depending on what you are planning to use it for, consider buying shear pins in bulk. I take mine in the back yard to clear paths to my wood stacks. It has tried to eat sticks, rocks and even a buried air hose. I carry the shear bolts and a wrench in my pocket. Yours appears to be pre-2015 when they changed the design a bit. They are definitely not dropping in price!!

What a great score! And awesome job on all the pre season prep work. Looks to be in good shape and I’m sure will last a good long time.

I agree with buying shear pins in bulk, I have a bag of them in the garage. We have stone over one of our beds near the driveway. Just takes a small one in the right spot to stop that auger and snap a pin.

You're gonna like that LordOfTheFlies ... stuckinthemuck got me up to speed on those 4 or 5 years ago... bought the 32" version, and love it... my son got one... still raves (every storm) about how far it throws snow. Good luck with it...

Ariens has the snowblower thing down. I know these Hondas are good, but I haven't seen anything that can chuck snow like Ariens machines.

That's a great score though. You didn't even need to take the carb apart and clean it.

Thanks all. I'm pretty darn stoked. Just waiting for the wire to arrive. Given how nasty the tranny fluid was I'm thinking I should have taken the opportunity to drain the auger gear box while I had it all apart and now I don't feel like taking it all apart again and I also don't feel like tilting the machine over just to drain that thing. P:erhaps it's time to invest in an oil extractor pump.

I never broke a shear bolt on a snowblower.

They must be impressive if they can out throw these.
