I'm building a house for myself in S.W. Missouri, and will be buying homeowners Ins. for the first time. What can I expect from the State Farm agent who will be coming to look things over?
Nothing more than any other company... They had a third party company come out and take pictures and send them to there under writers corp. Then get ready for all their mail they send... I just went in lastnight and went over the policy with my agent...
You can expect a hassle more than likely. Like they said...shop around. Lots of people are perfectly happy with SF, but in CS surveys they usually don't score the highest...do a little research on highly rated companys for your area
Farmers insurance is a farmers joke. Got a policy from the local agent, was told they would be sending some one out to take pictures. About 30 days later got a cancleation notice. (1. I had honey bees in hives in the front yard and the back yard. (2. I had 20 some antique tractors setting by the pole barn and some equipment behind it. Farm Bureau has been good with us so far. Auto Owners was also good till Kare bought a 1993 Dodge stealth then the chips hit the fan $2500. every 6 months and it wasn't even the twin turbo model. Al
It seems to be different out here than towards the east, they don't even blink an eye at our wood stove set up/venting clearances etc. but I've heard some having headaches with that out east. Here, the roof is a BIG deal, what condition and expected life. Also proximity of propane tank to house, wood stacks, flammable vegetation, and distance to a fire hydrant. (we've paid through the nose for insurance since 1993 because fire hydrants were too far, or here, there aren't any period). We were inspected in 1993, and never again (even when switching insurance companies). This home, no idea, they went off the county assessors #s. MO? Maybe the elevation of your home for flooding? Guess I'm kind of talking outloud.
