Homemade rocket stove

    Stopped to meet with a client today and noticed he was using a rocket stove to heat his shed, so I snapped a few pictures for you guys to look at. It's a home-made system.

    The big odd shaped piece of metal on top is not part of the stove.

    It looks more like a stem fron casting other pieces of brass....

    I am interested in building a rocket stove for myself but know very little about them so far. What is the rusty piece of tube in the middle with the bolted on cap? Is there a vertical baffle inside it that makes the exhaust contact more surface area for more heat?
