I'm thinking of growing a few meat chickens this year. Anybody have any experience with making a homemade plucker? I have seen the U-Tube examples of the "Whizbang" and the hand held drill ones.

Only ones I have used have been my hands.....lol
We used to whack their head off dip them in boiling water and pluck away....... That is one thing I DO NOT miss about my childhood. I HATED butchering chickens. We would do 20-30 in an afternoon then can and freeze them.

My uncle made a great big spinning wheel with about 5 or 6 rubber hands on the outer edge. It was belt driven. All I can really remember, my parents claimed it worked great. They would butcher and pluck chickens for other local farmers, which I don't think any sane persons would do if the machine didn't work as advertised.

We take our birds to an Amish man that turns a live bird into a bird in a bag ready for the freezer for $2.
