hey folks, i found a homelite 550 cleaning up around the farm, got to to fire but there is gunk all over inside the fuel tank,in the head below the carbeuter, etc. im going to tear it down and clean is up and try to put it back together. be my first attempt at such a task.lol so any pointers tips advice is much appreciated
Welcome to the club, if’n you get it running there’s a pretty good chance that more saws are in your future
Maybe worth also looking on YouTube. I recently disassembled several components on my Stihl saw and YouTube was an invaluable resource for helping with disassembly/re-assembly.
If you’re tearing it down anyways, replace the carb intake boot, new fuel lines and rebuild the carb. Homelite made a series with the 350/450/550/650/750 that are all similar, just different displacement. The bigger saws are more rare so most of the tear down/rebuild vids online will be of the 350/360. this one gives a pretty good overview of how to break down the saw for doing the boot
ahh thats what its called the carb intake bootlol, i think that was of gunk i pulled out the head when i took the carb off. thank you tho this was much help.
gonna start hunting for parts right meow. will post pics and update later. until then imma make my 391 purr.
