Hello all, i recently put in a wood burner in my house. Got tired of huge bills for heating in the winter. But , ok now i got to cut my wood... so i went to craigs list and got a chainsaw. It looks almost new, the guy said he used it once and it was in storage for 4 years ... Ok i payed 50 bucks for it, the saw had the oil and gas drained out of it wile in storage. The saw fired right up with some gas and a few pulls. The saw would bog down when the trigger was pulled, so i adjusted the High pin on the carb and it seemed to run like a champ. Ok now ill start a cut with it and the chain just stops !! So i opened up the clutch and the clutch looks brand new ! not a mark on the thing, what could the problem be?? I do small engine repair and i know what to look for, just kinda got me surprised that the clutch and drum look great. Anyone have any ideas? what should i check on it ? Like yeah it starts cutting fine then just stops, i can post some pics of the clutch tomm, but it literately looks brand new. there was some grease in the bell but nothing that i havent seen on other engines before. im thinking of checking the clutch spring tomm just to see if its flexing right. ANy ideas or help would be great !!

Welcome! do the RPMS stay up like the saw is free revving or is the engine loaded/bogging? If bogging I'd suspect the chain brake maybe?

Also take a good look at the chain for sharpness & make sure someone didn't take the rakers way down & make it real grabby. That ain't an over powered saw.

the chain seems sharp, im not sure what rakers are but ill do a search. The saw ..how to describe it .. it cuts great when the chain is moving, i just used it to cut a few logs, i put no pressure on the saw just the blade do the work but after its gos in the log so far just stops, but its just unpredictable when the chain will stop.

just looked up the rakers and a chart of how to tell if there low or high and they seem dead on for them to be good to go.

Ok, next up is to check the sprocket tip on the bar, it may be getting seized up when it gets warm. Run the saw till the chain stops & then see if it turns free by hand. Be careful not to cut yourself though. Tip may be getting crap in it or bearing may be bad.

i came across someones posted review from home depo and he said he had to over tighten his chain for it to work right, just something to keep in mind i guess, he said once he did that it worked right and over all it wasnt a bad saw.

well so far ... ok i adjusted the H and L and the T on the carb seemed ok ... its not , it will rev up good then next min bogs down, just to get it that far i know its cranked to high on the H and the L this is why i only deal with Brigs and Strat engines on my equipment. I have a homelite weed eater that runs good so i thought hay homelite cant be to bad ! Hmmm.. I pulled the top of the carb off and its clean as new and the gasket looks new to. I think im going to put another day or two of work on it and if it still dont work right im asken for my money back. Thats why i love brigs n strat, hit it with a sledge hammer and rig it with a paper clip and it still runs great. Can you post video on here ill record what this thing is doing so yall can see.

Bogging off idle is normally a lean low side. The saw is not getting enough fuel to transition to wide open throttle.

I would blow out the filter and wash with some water and dish soap. Make sure its clean and dry. Clogged filter will cause the saw to bog in the cut also.

The antivibe springs are really weak on that saw. Could be handle and chassis are flexing and decreasing throttle rod response. I had one where the flex caused a runaway WOT throttle - that was real fun.
Another possibility is dirty carb - the screen is varnished and has debris. Whole carb needs disassembly and cleaning.
Another - Fuel line is hard or pinhole or gets pinched.
Sadly, I think this is the worst mass produced saw since 1990. It's the only saw that I won't take as a trade in when I sell a saw.

ok guys im having another problem now to with my stove, it burns great somedays and somedays its a mofo to keep lit, what should i do ? should i extend my pipe ? its already 3ft over my roof, and i was thinking drastic drill a few more air holes ? of corse ide make it so its still controllable, but i dont know what to do. My flue is only about 7-8 ft i have two turns in it but there both 43 degree angels, but like i said some days it works so good and somedays just wont stay lit, i honestly think its my house isnt putting out enough air for the stove. I live in a small home . and from what i researched this stove should be good for us but its like its just not getting enough air. I am new to woodstoves though. it does keep the house very nicely warm the days it works. and its only been installed for about 2 months so it cant be pipe blockage ... i dont think . anyone want to chime in ?

what if ide fab out the spring? the top one , im actualy pritty decent at metal working , think it would be worth a try?? I really do like the saw and its just been a jerk. I even talked to my dad hes old school on it but he told me the same stuff everyone on here said. So im thinking ... it might be the bar but i blew out my knee 3 times the other day so its been hard to really get work done, ive done logs and even fixed my tractor but its not easy as usual for me to get around right now. so i will get on working on the saw but i cant say when.

o forgot to add on the stove if i keep the door cracked very slightly it burns great but soon as i close it it dies off and gos out and all of the vents are wide open, Its an old model so the vents are just slide holes in the front.. really dont know what to do =/
