I thought I'd share with you guys my homemade chain vice.I use it for filing rakes down after sharpening a bunch of chains.
I have it clamped in a vise and it allows the chain to hang down off the edge of the table just like when the chain is in the grinder.
I can quickly gauge and file them pretty quickly with it.
included a pic of one of my filthy benches were my grinder is mounted.Mine is a Jolley star from Baileys. Works real good and in happy with it

It's nothing fancy but works pretty well.Made it out of 10 gauge steel and a some rod.
I think a cam lever type lock upgrade in the future might be happen. The T handle bolt works good but a cam lever would be even quiker.

Evanrude I like that! That is wider than mine so that will make less tme moving chain through the vise.I think should have made mine a little wider.

It's just scrap aluminum. When doing any work, I have to stay within the vise jaws. Otherwise, it just flexes too much. I have a piece of thicker aluminum angle that I'm going to use for V2.0, hopefully it'll be a little more rigid and allow me to atleast do the depth gauges outside of the vise jaws.

jackel440 You've inspired me to fiddle with making the new one with the thicker angle stock. I just got it done about an hour ago. I didn't get to test it out yet, I was tired and wanted to come in the house. It is much sturdier than the old one. I kept it the same length because that always seemed to work well.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I thought you might want to check it out.
