Cut this up today at stepdaughters. Her BF took it down earlier this year to get utility wires/pole in for their place. Dont think ive ever bucked a tree with this much hollow. Main trunk, twin forks and even into a smaller limb it was hollow. IMG_2123.JPG IMG_2122.JPG IMG_2124.JPG IMG_2125.JPG IMG_2128.JPG IMG_2130.JPG Stump has a new purpose! :picard: IMG_2127.JPG
Used the truck to move the wood. Stored on their property. IMG_2132.JPG IMG_2131.JPG IMG_2133.JPG It'll get split and stacked with the birch i cut there in the Summer. IMG_2134.JPG

    What kind of hickory????

The bark doesn't look like any hickory I've seen before.

They were a lot lighter and easier to pick up. The bigger ones had loose bark so itll get SS and sold 23-24.

Recognize one of the saws and the stack covering?

Didnt pay attention, but either pignut of bitternut.

EDIT: after studying the bark closer i believe it to be a bitternut. Scarcest hickory in these parts IME. Pignut & shagbark the other two. Mockernut may be around but cant confirm if ive seen one in person.

I have not. Still sitting in the PU. Havent used the tongs either. Old habits die hard here. Pick em up and carry. I will sharpen (eventually) :emb: I seem to use them when i have a good distance to carry rounds to the PU and that mostly happens with BL. One of the few woods ill go the extra mile (or two) for :loco:

Love me some hickory. Those hollows should be easy to split .

I halfed a few to laod and they did split easy. All the nuggets/shorts came back here and were run through the hydro at storage this morning. Working on a cord of high btu, extended drying shorties and these got added to it. Just need a bin for them. Mostly white oak and honey locust plus hickory. IMG_2137.JPG
