Almost 3 years ago my buddy and I were fortunate enough to come into a big shagbark hickory score. We've had about 10 face cords of it split and stacked. I am just burning it now and am reminded of how great it is! Burned mostly hickory yesterday and last night and had awesome coals this morning for the re-start. I love putting a big chunk in the insert and not having to reload for 2 and a half hours! The difference in heat output is very noticeable.

Today will be more of the same as winter has returned a little (29 outside as I write this).

    Enjoy the day, folks!

I don't have any hickory in my woodyard. There's a few healthy hickory trees growing nearby, but I won't cut them down. Now, if they died off on their own, well, that's a different story.

I do have a good supply for smoking, but that's stored away from firewood.

I does put out some good heat. I sold a half cord to a regular customer and she couldnt get over its heat output. Wants more next year. Dont recall if there was any shag in the mix.

Shag is one of the premiums that I don't have much of even with significant acreage. Good bit of bitternut, but not many shags. I recall it likes to throw big chunks of bark when cutting it.

Shag is the best firewood I’ve ever burned. The hype is justified.

I have a fair amount of SBH in my stacks. There are quite a few on my property. Where there are several too close together to flourish I thin them.
