216.jpg 215.jpg Pretty nice pig nut fell across the drive. Wouldn't you know I didn't see it until the school called and told us they were letting out early due to flooding. I rushed to get a path so my wife could get thru to pick up the grandsons. I hate to loose the tree but I love to burn hickory. My 026 with a 16" bar did a fantastic job as the tree was about 16" diameter at the fork.

By the way, save some for the smoker or grill.

I was able to burn some of my first hickory this year. That stuff is GREAT! Sounds like you had the right saw for the job too. Too bad it was such a healthy looking tree.

While I was in the woods Monday I heard what sounded like 2 gun shots and heard a tree fall, I got a glimpse of it falling and when I checked it out it was a dead poplar. Today while taking a break I heard one fall but I'm not sure where, sounded like it was up on the hillside. We got about 3 inches of rain last weekend and the ground was saturated and starting Wednesday we got another 2 to 3 inches and we have heavy wind so there will most likely be more down.

I agree and I think Ive been underestimating mine a bit!
Nice take, glad your saw was ready I have one too with a 20 inch, its actually been told to be bulletproof so my doubts on my saw are going away.

Wish I had some of that for my smoker. Looks like some nice rounds that are good and solid.

I don't have a lot of experience with the 026 but I like the power to weight ratio and I like the 16 bar. If I need an 18 or 20" I have 2 of each but they're on bigger heavier saws. My other 026 is a shelf queen that looks like new.

I agree. The power to weight ratio is spot on. I use it as my limb small wood saw. I use my 044 for felling the bigger trees. Looked at a 661 today :faint:

Oh and hickory is my favorite to burn. Burned me some shagbark this year. The stove loved it

I have no need for anything over 20". I only cut and burn firewood from my property and I don't have any large hardwood timber. As mentioned in another thread I got permission the cut the tops on adjacent property and the 16" will be good for 90 to 95% of it. I'm thinking about getting another 026 daily driver to have a spare.

I like shagbark better than pig nut but it's all good.

Don't need a bigger one either. But man alive wouldn't it be sweet to pull a 661 out of the truck lol

If you had to lose a tree at least you get some good firewood out of it. Not much hickory on the property here.

This is my only saw right now and I love it. It's my favorite of all I've owned over the years. I have cut up a bunch of big stuff with it, including a 44" city yard DSCN1538.JPG DSCN1539.JPG DSCN1541.JPG hard Maple. Would a bigger saw have been better for the job? Sure, but this what I had. As they say... you've gotta dance with the girl you brought to the party, and my girl is the 024.  And I bought it used for a 150 bucks with the custom Stihl case. I've probably put 80 cords through it.
