Picked up a Henry H001 in .22LR in hopes of a bunch of. 22 boxes to churn through it well. Including some Russian steel case. Guess I'll find out next time I'm at the range. Watching a few of those YouTubers, they confirm it will fire a big range of labels from multiple manufacturers but accuracy is a big hit or miss, excuse the pun. Some are better than others.

Aside from that, who doesn't like plinking the cheap cans and bottles until they fall apart? Fun cycling gun, cheap shooting and not looking for a gun for 200 yard shots... although I had read that one of our members here was part of LaPua testing their lots with his precision rifle. Nice article but I'm having some trouble tagging him here though.

I'm hoping to buy this exact rifle whenever it becomes available at my LGS. There's something about those lever action rifles that just begs you to take it plinking. Maybe it just reminds me of the Red Ryder days. Let us know your impressions after sending a few different rounds through it

I definitely will and I doubt highly that it'll be my only lever action. There's love I got for .410 and there's someone that has one but I don't have the good gotten gains to purchase it at the moment but hoping to get a revisit of it. If its not a 410 I'm thinking something like 30 cal. Whatever comes available. The Red Ryder is super fun to shoot, in fact I was just shooting it with the targets outside. Clay set up.

Yep. I have a 45-70 with a side gate. I stocked up on ammo last year and since then, the price of ammo has about doubled. Unfortunately, that means I need to be restrained in the amount of plinking I do. The logical next step would be hand loading but I am not quite there yet.

This would be the first time I heard of a large caliber used as "plinking" ammo. But it would depend on whether or not anyone who procured enough would find it suitable to just have at it. I would love to be taught to reload at first. Many are getting on the game on their own though.

Yeah, I don't go plinking with it. It kicks pretty hard and I would like to keep my arm attached to my body.
Maybe I am just dimmer than the average bulb but I see no problem with watching a handful of YouTube videos about hand loading and giving it a try. Maybe one day I will get all the stuff.

With the way everything's been, I think I went through upwards of 2k 0.177 caliber pellets for "backyard plinking" within the past 6 months. I haven't been to a range since November. I don't even want to touch any of my 22LR stash :headbang:

Lever action 22s are just plain fun!!! I’m trying to get a representative of each one made. Still need a marlin (57, I think) and a Remington nylon 76 (the only lever gun Remington has ever produced). Probably got 8-10 lever 22s. They are fun

I'm definitely doing the same thing. So much cheaper than getting the real guns out and the range actually is like a hassle. So much to load up in a car and go when it's easier to grab the Red Ryder. Now That's plinking fun. In round figures, I've got about 10K in .22. I've got a little bit more than that in BB's and buying 6K in a bottle that costs 8-12 bucks depending on where you get it helps a lot by stretching out the resource while still working on shooting fundamentals. Not able to take long shots though. Too bad .22 USED to be that cheap, a brick for 5-10 bucks.

Yes they are, I found Marlins to be especially attractive but what happened is Marlin was bought from a different company and then something happened with the gun accuracies. Now Ruger is trying to get the platform to be back to the quality Marlins used to be. After hearing they were falling from quality, I heard from a friend its just best to find them in the older versions.

I was interested in a lever action .45-70 like JackHammer for a Cattle Ranch gun. I guess some ranchers really can run into some hungry animals in that regard. I can definitely understand you feeling some pop from that cartridge. Maybe we will get a Red Ryder/BB gun group set up here so we can have fun knocking down cans while keeping it cheap. :thumbs:

The 45-70s are used as guide guns in Alaska for big stopping power in a pinch. I don't expect that I will ever need that extra power but I like having it. It might also come in handy if I ever found 4 deer lined up in a row.

The other one that was interesting was the long ranger. The big draw for me with my lever was a fast second shot. A bolt action is typically more accurate but not as fast in that regard. So, Henry put a lever on a bolt style gun with a magazine. I really like this concept. In my mind, that is the best of both worlds- fast and accurate. If I was looking at a bolt action, a long ranger would be on the short list.

Of all the stuff I own, I gotta say that when deer season comes, my 1941 1894 30-30 lever is my go to. Carbine with the short 5 round mag. Light & quick in the brush. It's never missed, but I have lol.

Oh Man. I'm gonna spare you with the photos of the sort but took this thing out to shoot rats with in the barn where we keep our birds and other animals at. Holy Wheelskates. That was fun. We shot it with rat shot Federal Brass. Not even a single fail to fire. Now what? Have I got bigger problems or no problems: The lady wants my Henry. :startled::picard: I told her " this thing comes in .410, dear". Looks like I'm going shopping for an early birthday/Xmas gift. :binoculars: 20210426_174700.jpg

Thanks for the update. Nice combination of good ammo/good rifle. Those rats must've looked pretty gory... I imagine hitting one with a 22 is like hitting a deer with a 50BMG

Only online. I've also heard on the YouTube that the garden gun is a much more dense patterning at 5, 10, 15 and 20 feet and then past 20 is ok but not worthy of much. I'd still use it to just scare birds from fruit trees and whatnot. If it crosses my path...

Have you ever shot 22LR Shotshell before? I can't say I even know someone who has. I may or may not have a smooth bore 22 single shot Derringer that shoots in wildly unpredictable ways using regular 22LR. I think I need to buy some of this shotshell and give it a whirl...

Never, that was a first time for me and I thoroughly enjoyed how novel it was. I wish it were cheaper to find, boxes online cost in upwards of 30+ and shipping. Saw 500 Federal box for nearly $200. At least that number would keep us going awhile. CCI makes them as well but I didn't try those this time. They have a plastic cap at the end of the cartridge so I wonder if this purely gets obliterated. It's not like the crimped end of the brass shell. The box I found was for 8 bucks at a local pawn shop and only one box was to be had. But they are the source for vintage ammo but so far, never had a problem last night with it. It gives a much more noticeable impact due to the spread of it.
