I began my hoarding with this downed tree. I don't know what it is but the wood split easily by hand with a maul. I cut and wheelbarrowed this out of the woods last fall. I just split a piece and the moisture content is around 19%.
Ash. Thats without looking at the other replies. If there was only one wood i could harvest it would be ash. Splits easily, dries in a year! Great first scrounge there BA!
If the tree was standing dead and has bark look for emerald ash borer evidence. They chew "D" shaped holes into the bark. The tunneling under the bark by the worms is quite prevalent. I have a pic but cant get it to load. EDIT: didnt read prior posts before i posted.
