Hey guys, I have oil as a backup but only use 25 gallons or so year. We're getting our 175 gallon tank topped of tomorrow with these stupid oil prices. Im seeing that this fuel could last 6 or 7 years. I also have a diesel trick and know about algae being able to bloom in HHO and diesel. Does anyone have a suggestion of a good preservative product for this purpose? I use OptionLube XPD in my truck and was thinking of their new preserve product
I have used their Diesel 911 in my truck when it froze up in northern Maine. I think I got water in the fuel when filling up as it was running fine for the first 600 miles on this trip. I've also been using Power Service Treatment + Cetane lately in my truck and car. I think they have good products
Nothing to add, but want to see where this goes. We never bothered treating because we went through so much HHO before the wood stove. The longest it would sit is probably 6 months. Even then, it would only be 100-150 liters.
I would first call the supplier and see if they dont already add an additive to your HHO. Asumming your tank is inside and has a filter inline that you change on a timely basis??? I wouldnt worry to mucch about it. #2 fuel in a home heating situation is a little different than what goes on with a vehickle traveling down the road. I doubt that any additive you add is going to do any harm to the fuel oil or your furnace but you might be stepping over quarters to pick up a dime in doing so.
This interests me too. Our tank is outside and we only require a fill up every 3 or 4 years. It is in a protected area and on the north side of the house so the fellow who comes to refill it says condensation will be minimal. I am told in winter the fuel has additives but in summer maybe not. It probably comes from the same source as the highway diesel. Good stuff to look into.
interested also. i too use minimal HHO but i am almost ready to fit another 200 gallons to top off my 660 gallons worth of basement tanks. might as well wit these prices, $1.44/gal here today. my oil company offers Hot 4-in-1 Heating Oil Treatment but i never used it nor know anything about it. i use the diesel kleen in my truck and i am happy with it. easier start ups in the cold for sure. here is a chart of our prices since april:
Good stuff right here. I have a camp up in the mountains. I might use an eighth to a quarter of a tank of fuel oil a year. This will be year 5 for the oil that is in the tank. http://www.amazon.com/PRI-D-Fuel-St...1413958&sr=8-1&keywords=pri-d+fuel+stabilizer
