im looking to get some heated outdoor gear, Im out and about with the Hounds a lot in all kinds of weather and need to be able to use my hands...mostly to operate the GPS tracker, very similar to operating a smart phone, so big bulky gear doesn't work, and taking things off and putting back on is not realistic and doesn't work to keep warm in the really cold stuff, I'm thinking about trying a pair of electric heated glove liners and a hand muffler. there seem to be a lot of options especially now since battery tech has gotten a lot better, but some of it seems to be pretty cheap, anybody have use any that they like?
I have Raynauds Syndrome and spend a lot of time working outside and have to use a tablet. That means no gloves and it gets painful. Let me know if you come up with something decent but really thin.
I got the Mrs a pair of the Milwaukee gloves as a bit of extravagance for doing the cattle chores. Her comments so far are positive, but not much use yet. One concern for her is they are long, and hard to pull over the sleeves of her coveralls.
She just volunteered to try her iPhone with them on... She says it works, but the gloves are too small for her hands (men’s medium is as small as they sell), so her fingertip control isn’t ideal.
I bought my wife some heated gloves last winter. She likes them. My only complaint would be that usually for heated items like that the batteries do not last long enough. Myself, I've tried a few pair of heated stockings but none worked good enough for me and again, the battery does not last long, especially if you use them on high. Will last longer on low but not much warmth to be had there. A neighbor bought a heated jacket that he uses for hunting and he loves it. If I were to look again, I'd probably go to a motorcycle shop to see what they are selling. Oldhippie might also be able to help us out here. I'll send him and email to hopefully get him to chime in. They have gloves made for using Devices like phones and GPS , I never used any So I don't know if they work well or not. This company has good gloves, they make some like that Touch enabled fingertips on thumb and index finger, for precise swiping and conductivity . I've been using heated gear since 2001 for my motorcycle. Top of the line brand for many years with a wide selection for bikers, snowmobile, hunters, skiers etx was and is Gerbing. Harley OEMs their heated gear as well at is is guarantee for life. It's pricey but worth it in the long haul. Now there are a few other vendors that are very good as well, FirstGear is a reputable company, but I haven't done the research on this lately. I do know that the original family that started Gerbing sold that company and now has restarted another company, I'm not sure what that is called. Here is the Gerbing page and a set of gloves that might fit the purpose. I am not sure they work with a stand alone battery pack. Motorcycle guys usually use the connection to the battery of the bike and a power controller to regulate the heat. But these can be used with batteries but it might be through the jacket. I've used a large pair of mittens, with a lighter cotton work glove inside. Sandwiched between them, one of those air activated use once, hand warmers. The mitten comes off when dexterity is needed, but the cotton glove stays on for a little protection from cold. Works for me
Stylus pen Might work If you can, hook or clip it in or on your pocket or somewhere else Where you can Grab it and put it back easily with Your gloves on , Maybe you could stick one in the cuff of your glove ,Stitch in elastic band on the back of a glove, I don't know if you have to take your gloves off to get your GPS Monitor out
Same and other here, I oggle the Dewalt and Craftsman etc. heated jackets every year when they go on sale to see if there is arm/cuff heat, nope. All the heat is on the body core, my core is fine, I need hands like you and my feet. Is your's primary or secondary? adhesive velcro maybe?
Secondary, too many years of abuse on my hands. Some days don't bother other days at 40 degrees it's bad. No other parts so far are effected, hopefully never is.
Put a pair of latex gloves on before the regular gloves, you would be surprised how well it works. I used to do that all the time in the winter when it was bitter cold. I used to wear the cotton and leather gloves for work, as they were disposable. Put some latex on under them to help keep me a bit warmer.
Does anyone offer 12volt stuff that plugs in instead of batteries ? I road my tractor frequently between home and my shop and the last few years my rugged manliness has become more fragile.
In that case, a Stylus pen Might work better than your finger for that small screen . I use one on my tablet 'cause it's hard Tapping on small stuff Otherwise.
The ones with Micro-Fiber Tips Work a little bit better . I have these and they work pretty good Have small tips And come with replacement 'cuz after while they won't work so Good
You could get one with a tether And hang it on your neck Or something There is about a Million different kinds of stylus pens to choose from
