Now my family room is running at 88F, upstairs is 75 F but it is only down around 30 F outside.
I have the stove on 3.5 stove mode. I am going to install an exhaust fan and duct it to the upstairs, perhaps to the hall way where it will force the cold air return down the stairs.
Has anyone tried this? I mentioned this to the owner at Rocky's stove shop. He said if I put the exhaust in the ceiling, it will pull the heat to the ceiling. But that is where most of the heat is.
If I put in lower on the wall nearer the floor, Will it pull the warm air down and push that air upstairs.
There would be another benefit if I installed it that way. The cool air on the floor during the summer could be pulled upstairs and help cool the house. Warm air would be pulled down helping to keep the dampness down.
Just a theory. Any thoughts on this.
By the way, this stove is a hot one. Anyone thinking of heating their whole home with a pellet stove needs to look at one that has a really good BTU output ratings. I struggled with one that did OK in the shoulder season, but left us too cool when it was in the teens or less. Live and learn.

It should help some, But it IMHO will be minimal at best. I had this and even added fans to force the air up and I only saw a few degree's improvement. Any stove over 45K BTU's would have improved your heat numbers. Getting that extra heat up(where you need it) is going to be your biggest challenge IMHO.

Ducting the stoves heat(like a furnace) up has been the best for my house.

Maybe add the NPS40 somewhere upstairs?

I agree with keeping the Napoleon and using that to even out the heat. Set the Harman to a temp that you like down stairs and use the Napoleon on a thermostat. The Napoleon would probably only be needed for the real cold and your pellet usage will most likely not be all that much different in the end.
I am going to put a second stove in the opposite end if my house to even temps. I have tried all sorts of fan configurations and its a hard nut to crack.

    we are making progress.
My family room was so hot, I didn't think I would be able to stand it much longer. I turned the stove down, but didn't tell the wife. Then I pulled the draft arrester away from the door going to the glassed in porch. I could feel a big draft of cold air rushing in. After a while, the room went down to 82 F. I turned the stove down again. Now on just above 2.5. Here is the odd part. The upstairs living area is warmer in all areas. Even the back room is above 70. Most rooms are 70-75 go figure. I like the way the ash is pushed forward and dumped out into the ash pan. Also my glass is staying clean. I have a little haze at the top, but mostly very clean. The flame I have now is a medium flame. One I call more civilized and in better control. My furnace isn't turning on at all. What a stove! And to think we are only tapping a bit of its potential.
My brother is considering a Visa Flame for his stove replacement.
I chose the one most on here recommended to me. I did look on CL, but opted to get it new from a dealer that I know I can trust. Having a family member who works there, and has this same stove was another factor.
I didn't ask or get a price advantage. I didn't want it to be award for my nephew. I think by not trying to take away the owner's profit, he should be more inclined to be there for me should I run into problems.

My thoughts that by letting the cold air in from the porch you pushed all the hotter air up and out .

As far as getting a deal from Harman dealer ,they don't have too much wiggle room, corporate sets the prices dealers can't under cut each other by hundreds of $$$. The dealer can toss in free pellets discounts on pipe ,hearths stuff like that. If I'm wrong on this the folks who are dealers here will shoot a hole in this :)

I cleaned my stove today but didn't bother with the glass. It's not that dirty. Looking at the stove, I get a big teardrop shaped buildup on the right side of my glass and a little haze in the upper left hand corner. As the second week progresses, the teardrop will just get darker and the haze with start to creep out father onto the glass. The center will stay pretty much clean. Glad to hear you're liking it. You may want to talk to your brother!

If its going in his basement and the Vista excepts duct. He'll have less struggles getting the heat up to where its really needed IMHO. Been there - done that.

His stove is in his dining room. Big issue he has are the 26 ft high ceilings above the kitchen, dinning room and living room. All open concept. Rocky's also has the Vista. They used it to heat their storage rooms. My nephew seems to think it has an even higher heating capacity than my stove. It uses a 4 in vent. Nephew lives in an apartment in the lower level of the same home my brother owns. Nephew is heating that apartment with the same stove I have.
