Have a raised hearth over 12" off the floor. Im re doing the floors and was wondering take the wood floor straight to hearth and do a hearth pad/rug or go with tile work? Having a hard time choosing a tile we like and rugs seem to go with everything. I could be wrong but raised hearths i think only need ember protection. Figured why not post away.
    Thanks

I am a fan of flat flooring as it looks great and easy to clean, but I miss the raised hearth at my previous residence for ease of stoking the fire height wise....

I mean out front of our raised hearth. The raised hearth is staying but if i run new wood floor up to it i need either tile work or pad/rug. No tile would also save from transition pieces

Right where I want to be.
Do you have all the clearance you need in front of the stove as is?
Not a fan of carpet anywhere near the stove door. Embers can pop out quite a ways.
I'd do wood, plus the pad.

Think raised hearths require ember protection aka hearth rug/pad. But we decided to re do the tile. One more project added......
