Pretty exciting day today as the long awaited install for my Fv has begun. My installer came today to take out the old Hearthstone Harvest stove that he installed 25 years ago and to begin the hearth rebuild. Got caught up in the moment and almost forgot to take any photos. Wished I had taken a few more, but I was trying to stay out of the way when not needed.

I helped getting the rock out of the house and into his truck ... I just can't believe how heavy that thing was and had my doubts at times, but we got it without any damage to anything or anyone. We used and old piece of carpet and some strips of 3/4 plywood to slide the rock out to the garage where it was loaded onto a hand truck and then up some 2x10s into the back.

Brick trim pieces on order, build of new floor should happen early next week with stove arriving one day next week.

    Here are a few photos.

What's gonna' happen to the "rock"?
    You're making nice progress.
Will the Fireview exhaust line up with what you have?

My installer gave me a very good package deal (de-install, hearth rebuild, Fv install, chimney sweep); I gave him the rock for "future considerations" - hope he can sell it and get a good price for it. After 25 years of use, I had no interest in trying to squeeze any more money out of it.

Needed to do the hearth floor rebuild because the center line was 2 inches too short for the Fv (20.75 vs 22.75 needed) and moving up the thimble was ruled out because of access, time and cost. Will be building up the floor with 2 layers of durock next gen and 1/2 inch thin brick that matches the brick we removed from the floor.

The thin brick corner pieces finally arrived at the brick yard today. Today's progress: chimney swept, two layers of durock next gen installed, edge pieces installed except for pieces requiring mitre cuts.

Remainder of floor to be completed tomorrow.

Fireview ships tomorrow and should be here in MI within 4 days.

Finish line is in sight ...

This hearth rebuild was much more time consuming than I ever imagined; exceedingly glad I did not attempt to do this myself. All bricks cut and set, grout to be done Monday. Hopefully, stove install Wednesday.

The last row at the wall would have resulted in some thin cuts, so the installer opted to install soldiers instead; not part of any master plan for sure, but looks good to me.

Here is the view I see from my command center (yes, my recliner and wood stove monitoring station)

From an outsiders point of view the soldiers look like part of the custom design and look great!

    I'm stealing this.
I'm sitting in mine right now, but it's a mere computer/wood stove/master of my domain monitoring station.
I'm with wildwest, that looks great and "custom". Hope he didn't charge extra.

I was trying to be patient and let the mortar dry a bit, but when I saw your post, I got a good laugh and realized I had set expectations, so here they are.

Stove set to arrive tomorrow morning at terminal, installer to pick it up on Thursday for install.

What happened on the left side there? That whole long gap between the corner pieces and the field brisk is really wide and some small cut pieces are missing? Maybe it's an illusion.

When they grout brick is it done like tile where you scrape it over the whole surface or is it layed in the gaps from a tool like a caulking fun or frosting shooter?

What color is the FV going to be?

Oh, don't worry about any imperfections you see in the photos I post ... all of those will be photoshopped out of the upcoming photo spread in Better Hearths & Wood Stoves :D

Oh happy day! It is finished!

Install of my new Fireview (charcoal) is now complete (except for that darn little black knob that I can't seem to get put on the bypass lever).
Pretty little stove; had never actually seen one in person until today. Until I can actually burn it this fall, I will be content with building up the wood supply and reading all "fireview" related posts ... again just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

And some pictures during install process (of course I didn't take enough and some were too fuzzy to post):

It is a pretty little stove isn't it!

Everything looks great, I will be interested to hear your thought on how it compares to your previous stove come this fall.

    Hearth looks amazing also! :)

    Nice job HarvestMan!
Do you have a fan or two up near the peak pulling up to get the heat back down in the room?
