Found this deal on another forum.....Amazon seller is selling the wireless thermometer kit for $50 with free shipping. I have been through two of the 732 model and honestly couldn't live without it. http://slickdeals.net/f/7753219-mav...wireless-thermometer-49-99-with-free-shipping
Nice I juts paid $59 last week for the webber version. Thats my second wireless thermometer. I love them, set the smoker up and watch from anywhere in the house.
Yeah, they are great. I don't know what I did before! The other 2 Mavericks I've had will keep a signal when I'm down in the garden, maybe 200' from the smoker. I can get so much done puttering around without having to come check on the smoker. Prell, it's not just one, there's plenty for everyone!
i got the 733 as well with the upgraded made in USA probes, These wireless thermometers are a must have, i have found the digital readout on my smokers control box varies greatly , sometimes by as much as 50 degrees, that is where the Maverick comes in, gives you the temp of the grill and you can adjust the heat accordingly. I usually put a probe on each side of the grill, found the left runs hotter than the right
I've been wanting one for a while. best deal I've seen, just placed my order. Thanks for the heads up. The igrill is said to be on sale ast Sam's Club $49.00 with 4 probes. I dont have a iphone, not sure how those actually work. http://www.kamadoguru.com/topic/18739-igrill2-50-at-sams/
The Igrill gets good reviews and I think for some it might be a better option with the big display on a tablet and some more control via the gui. The Mavericks though, man, they are dead simple and the thing is, the range is unreal, at least it has been on the 732 units I've owned. Like, 300' no problem. I doubt you could go wrong with either one, knowing what's going on in there, right where the food is, will change your cooks for the better for sure. You are going to love that thing!
There really aren't many quality high heat grill thermometers. The iGrill has the extra part of connecting it to your device via bluetooth, same with the new Maverick ET-735. I don't even know if I have bluetooth 4.0. I've been using $14 Taylor digital probe thermometers that I return often when the cords or probes fry. Walmart and Target have very generous return policies. I bought 3 and exchanged several, my $45 investment has never been lost, just replaced with new thermometers. The thermoworks TW8060 says it reads up to 2500F, for $150. I don't need to cook at 2500F. I think for high heat, the lid thermometer will work just fine accurate or not. If you really need to monitor temps over 560F, this is it- http://www.thermoworks.com/products/handheld/TW8060.html I do pizzas on my ceramic can't think of anything else you would need such high heat unless your trying to forge iron.
I would buy that Thermoworks if it came with a remote monitor that i can carry with me like the Maverick, Thermoworks is good quality i have their Thermopen instant read thermometer
Yeah, I've been considering upgrading to a Thermoworks unit since I could get higher rated K-type TCs and use it for stove work. They have a couple nice options, but I'm going to hold out for true wireless instead of bluetooth. These Mavericks are hard to beat for BBQ use though, the range and reliability of the signal is worth the price of admission for sure.
My Maverick was delivered today. I'm not impressed. Other than the remote monitoring, it doesn't do anything special. I don't see the point remotely monitoring inaccurate temperature! I have cheapo Taylor digital probe thermometers, I also have the cheapo Backyard Grill remote probe from Wally mart. All 3 are accurate and all 3 cost less than the inaccurate Maverick. The Maverick is +4 degrees, reads boiling water at 216F. I have not found any info yet from the manufacturer about accuracy. +4 may not seem to be a big deal, but for the premium price it should at least be accurate. I'll be sending it back and sticking with the cheapos. At least I can just take them back and get a new one. One seller mentions accuracy at +/-3 degrees. And when, not if, the probes fail completely I'll have to buy new ones for the cost of a new cheapo.
Sorry to steer you wrong A. I'm a big fan due to the range, but I can understand your disappointment. Do you have a Thermopen?
No need for you to apologize. I did my own research and made my own decision. It is disappointing that a 12 dollar discount store thermometer is more accurate.
