To relieve the stress on your lower back while cutting firewood? What did you think this thread was going to be about?
Actually I have. Been down on both knees too for the same reason. Sometimes the bending over becomes too much.
Not too much cutting the last almost 2 years, but yeah, I do that quite often. It's easier if I do a little cutting, then load some, then cut some......rinse repeat.
I am taking a knee in the first 30 minutes or less I am lucky to put in 3 hours in a day working with wood. Being retired helps me spread out the work load during the year.
Not bucking ,, but felling yes. My GOL instructor 30 years ago recommended it and a shoulder into the trunk . Now it's just second nature.
When my back is getting tight I like to stretch it by squatting...then I slowly try to place my hands flat on the ground between my feet...takes a bit to let things relax enough to do it, but I can usually get there...eventually...as long as I don't pass out from shallow breaths first.
Can't take a knee, hurts too much, severe arthritis with bone on bone. When I get down, usually unintended, I have to find help to get back up! When my back hurts, I lean against something and exercise my knees or I sit on something and then exercise my knees.
Yes, I do a lot of cutting like that and both knees as well. I hurt my back when we set the house up and there are times I still have issues.
I'm glad to see I'm in good company. I almost felt guilty the first time I did it last year cutting some pretty big tops. There were spots where the tops were jambed up and kneeling really helped.
I do a lot of bucking on one or both knees, saves my back. I limit it to dry conditions as I don't like kneeling in mud or snow.
