    Hello
    There are 2 types
    Type 1 — Pic 1-2 Hidden type

    Type 2 — Pic 3 - Visible type

The visible type 2 has a top bolt that gets loose very easily and I had to fix a stove where the bar fell into the auger chute and cause the auger miter shaft to get so jammed into the auger that the moter shaft broke off when removing. A new auger and auger motor then had to be installed.

    Pic 4 - Accentra Insert
Pic 5-6 — shows a simple C lock washer under the bolt that can prevent the bolt from loosening!

    Pic 7 - Hidden Latch
    Pic 8 - Visible Latch

    Which latch do you have?
    Which one is better?

could care less, because tightening all bolts is part of stove maintenance. But,your picture #7 is of the hopper lid latch, has nothing to do with your post. You can go in and change it.

Picture 7 is a different type of latch that is on some serial numbers see pic 2. I am trying to figure out if this is newer or older and how it works??
    See more info here
Harman Hopper Lid Latch (Male and Female) - Single Set (1-00-0669697)
Also why not put a nice C lock washer on it?

the barrel plunger one is the oldest, was problematic as sometimes the ball bearings would come out of the barrel, and then they dont work. Also, the bracket would bend readily. The second type is the only one you see today on new units, and its been that way for several years. The second one is MUCH better.....so, your 7th pic is the older of the two.....the eighth pic is newer, still furnished on new units

Thanks, my friend has both the new and old types on each of his 2 Stoves. (Where the pics of each cane from!) He hates the older type because it is hard to close!
Can that be upgraded to the new type?
Would he have to buy a new lid?

Do you think it is a good idea to put a lock washer on the new type to keep it from getting loose?

You can upgrade it to the new type, yup. You show the actual kit in the last pic!

Ive never had one fall apart....but agree, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use a lock washer if you can make it fit....those screws aren't very long that's included in the kit

    Thanks LW
Pics 5-6 show the nice heavy C lock washer fitting nicely under that short bolt and working well.
By looking at the 1st pic again that has the old style, it looks like the upgrade kit will fit right in!
Thanks so much for the info!!
