Used up the last of my chunks and uglies this past weekend. Was going to burn pine and then get to the oak as it got colder. Well, we've had a couple of chilly days here in Virginia, although some of our members further north would call them balmy. I decided I wanted some 3 year seasoned red oak to burn through the night. Filled the woodbox with half pine and half oak. Pine got the fire started hot and quick, then threw some oak splits on and went to bed. An hour later I'm throwing covers off because it's too hot! I've never had as much pine (white) as I do this year, but I'm going to make a point of cutting a bit more for starting those fires hotter and quicker.

I usually use the pine for kindling, the best Firestarter for me , it's like gasoline

    PINE ? :bug:
Yea pine is usually underrated, good dry pine, light good & gets hot fast.
Great for " 1 off" fire to take the chill off too.

Yep a lot of people out west heat their homes with pine. You just have to make sure it is dry just like any other wood.

People love to put down the pine. Easy to split, fast growing, dries fast, lights easy. It surely has a place in the firewood stockpile.

I'm doing the same thing here except with boxelder instead of pine. It keeps the temp cooler to not cook us out when temps are in the 30s but leaves coals for a reload in the morning! Day time gets all oak to get the peak and glide effect to get coals and temp to last till the night time load. Nice having the insulated garage attached to vacate some heat into if needed as well. House 72-74, garage 60-65 equals great combo! And a very nice warm car in the morning!:p
