My arborist friend dropped this big red maple for me. He made sure anything under tension or compression was cut and cut the big trunk up. The rest is mine to work on all winter.
That cut that's kinda facing the camera was probably just cutting off the flare, so he could get more with his bar. His notch is on the side the tree went...for the most part, just the 'roll' took it to the side of the stump... Well at least, that's my thoughts...
That ought to keep you busy for a while. Why did you want to tree down? Looks like he got a lot of the large stuff sawed up for you. That’ll be helpful
Nice score. Can I ask why you had it cut down? It looked like a really nice tree. I bet the fall foliage on it was pretty.
Over the years it had several large branches come down, there was constantly woodpeckers in it, clearly not healthy. And it is fairly close to the house.
See the 3rd picture. Felling direction to the right, tree laying to the left. I wasn't there to see how it got there (opposite of the felling direction), but the result is not what I consider a "good job". Glad nobody got hurt.
Red maples due same thing here the base of tree is ridiculous, then 6-8 feet up several leaders. Generally the leaders are the size of a regular tree themselves. Where leaders come out of main trunk, there is a bunch of crotches. Water snow melts and freezes, causing a crack in tree. Then Bugs get in. You cut it at right time while there were more good leaders than bad. Gets dangerous quick!
