Picked one up last night from my FFL guy, am sending it back tomorrow. Problem in the chamber/forcing cone/bore. 2 irregular lines from forcing cone to about 3" into bore, highly unusual. After a thorough cleaning (X3), these lines leach fluid so they may be small fracture lines. This is a first for me, so if you have one of these, check your barrels. FYI. JB -Outside of that, I like it.
Brand new. Interesting that it's going to Remington's repair shop. It's close to an 870 but not exact.
Found this review The name says it all. The H&R Pardner Pump Protector wasn’t built for wing-shooting doves or busting clay pigeons. No, this is a gun to be kept at the bedside, ready for behavior modification on bad people who want to go bump in the night. Loaded with up to six rounds of 2 ¾” or 3” shot, its twelve gauge bite is even worse than its thunderous bark, and that says a lot. This H&R shotty is crafted in China by Qiqihar Hawk Industries Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China North Industries Corporation. Commonly referred to as Norinco, most gun fanciers know China North Industries as a major producer of inexpensive SKS and AK-pattern rifles. Hawk confines itself to making shotguns, including a slew of clones of the classic Remington 870 sold under the H&R name. Oh, and H&R is an affiliate of Remington, which is part of the Freedom Group, which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management. Got that? Thus, the H&R/Hawk alliance reflects the modern era where money-loving American capitalists and money-grubbing Chinese communists come together like lions and lambs to sing “Cumbayá” and peddle inexpensive defensive firearms to a grateful American public. The deal twixt the two companies might not be Mao Zedong’s idea of a Great Leap Forward, but the rest of us can enjoy one of the fruits of this cross-cultural incest: the H&R Pardner Pump Protector.
I read that same review, seems he had a barrel issue also-(it was bent, threw off his patterns a few inches) Maybe barrel QC isn't their strong suit? It's a Norincoboom, I'm not expecting perfection. I will state the slide/action worked very well. I'll update when/if it shows back up. 4-5 weeks?? I've got a case of low-base with its name on it. We'll see. JB
I like the gun and to clone the 870 is smart. I'm thinking your issue is not that common as there has to be tons of these guns out there. I'm just questioning the quality of the steel and the quality control of the manufacturing based on the bolded line the review I posted. But then again, I am profiling based on where it came from.
I have one and I love it, bought it about 10 years ago and it's been through all kinds of crap. Shot hundreds of birds with it, and for turkey it's spot on. That gun with a good turkey choke throws an amazing pattern. Took it to Nebraska/Kansas a few times. The first trip out there I misjudged yardage on a turkey, all I could see was the top half of the bird. Thought it was way closer and took the shot. Bird dropped and started flopping and when I stood up I looked and realized it was a very long shot. I'm 6' tall and have long legs, when I stepped it off it was 72 steps or just over 70 yards. The bird had bb's in the head and the wing bone was completely shattered. That gun with heavy shot and a good choke is spot on.
The old lady has one and loves it. I did have to polish the bore to fix a problem with jammed shells, I hear that is a common problem. IIRC it only jams with federals.
It showed up today, new barrel. The repair description was "tight chamber", well I guess that works, sorta.... Everyone who saw it before saw it today and yeah, it's finished much better. So, off to the range this weekend.
