Yes I know mtronic and autotune saws have been out a while now. I just got a new ms261c and have only ran maybe 3-tanks threw her (cutting tulip which if it wasn’t dropped off for free I wouldn’t even pick up) so to me it’s a soft wood to cut…

Anyway was just wondering what your guys thoughts/opinions/complaints would be about them after running regular carbs for years (like I have)….i was reluctant but ran across a deal I couldn’t pass so I will finally find out what it’s all about!!!

I like them. A lot. It's nice to not have to carry a tuning screwdriver to tune for different weather and temp conditions. The only issue I've had is if the saw was last ran in say, 85° high humidity weather and the next time you pull it out its 25° and dry. I've had to do a reset in this situation because it was loading up and stalling at idle. Mine is gen 1 Mtronic on my 241. The gen 3 version on my 201c didn't need this in similar situations. Now, when I pull the 241 out, if it hasn't cut in a few weeks, I do the reset. It takes 90 seconds. I have no experience with the Husqvarna auto tune outside of running someone's 550xp I worked on. The Biggest benefit I see of the Mtronic over auto tune isn't operation, it's the fact with a Stihl you can replace the solenoid yourself for $40, do the reset and your on your way. The Husqvarna you replace the whole carburetor at a much higher cost, as the solenoid is integrated into it, and a dealer has to hook it to a computer to get it to work once replaced.

I still have more manual saws than automatic. Way more. I'm good at crisp tuning honed over many years of running / racing gas and nitro RC cars, but I definitely like not having to do so.

I consider mtronic vs old tune
    As carburetor vs fuel injection

I like old v8 as much as anyone
In 15 years you have as much trouble finding a tuned saw as you do a manual transmission now. IMO

Agreed. In fact Echo is now coming out with electronic controled saws. The saw I saw on line wasn't a pro saw either, which is surprising considering the other two only offering it in pro grade saws. But, I also believe non professional users need something that tunes for them more that a seasoned professional user does.

Yea my 261 is a 6/2023 model and has the version 3.0

I was looking at videos about the reset and seems fool proof really….i wonder how often a guy needs to reset it, I assume only when necessary

Basically only if it has a running issue that won't clear up from cutting with it. Like I had with my 241 from the very large weather change from use to use. I have enough saws to cycle through that they can set months some times.

I love the mtronic saws and I’ve been using chainsaws professionally for more than half my life. My first experience with mtronic was the 201tc, than I got a 261c, 462c, 400c, and 661c. No troubles with any of them. No hot start issue, no blown crank seal issue, no firm ware update necessary and most importantly no loose or missing screws. :smoke:
The 400c is ported and good lord does it cut wood no problems. Fully recommend mtronic!

They are wonderful for sure. I hope Echo does well with theirs too.

That’s quite the line up, how you like that 462, does it blow the 461 out of the water???

I never ran a 461. If I buy another saw there’s a good chance it will be the 461. I used a 460 for many years and there’s no comparison between the 2. I like the extra cc’s of the 460, but the 462 is so light and balanced with a 24” es light bar plus it spins up faster. The 462 is my favorite 70cc class saw by far. It starts easy too. It makes me want to cut just thinking about it. You should get one.

I had a 461, used it for firewooding for 3 years and was offered to much for it by my company when they were hard to get. I wish I hadn't sold it.

I am no logger, but I have used my 461 with a 32” bar and skip chain in shagbark hickory (yes I have the HD oiler), and I was totally shocked how well it preformed, no issues at all. Now of course I have properly sharpened chain and I did open the muffler some, but the guy that was with me cut trees for a living was like “you got a proper set up there)….the 461 is just a beast!!

I would never sell mine, it’s a pleasure to use on any hard wood 20” to the biggest I get (which is when I put the 32” bar and skip chain on her)….

We occasionally used a 36” es light bar with full skip chain on the 460. It got the job done and kept the bar oiled without an upgrade.

Did it really, I didn’t like the way mine oiled a 24” bar in hard wood to be honest….
