I hate harvesting by knife, it takes too long. I'd like to get one of these but the price is $600!

So I'm kicking around a build idea using a lawn mower body, hedge trimmers, electric motor w/ pulleys to drive a spinner similar to the one in the vid, and using a bagger to catch the harvested greens. With the mower body I wont have to bend over, itll be just like mowing the lawn, plus I can set my depth w the mower wheels and get a consistent height.

The downsize is the greens rows would be a max of 22" wide instead of 30-32"

How hard to push a modified reel mower thru greens ?
Power assist would probably be nice too.

I thought about this but the reel mower would shred them up. Then I'd be selling bags of green confetti lol. A sickle bar would work just fine, hence the plans to use a hedge trimmer.

Yeah I was thinking the reel blades would have to be replaced with similar rope thingies.

Does a hedge trimmer stay sharp enough ? Never tried it. Not the greatest on some grass.

How about an electric turkey carver ?

actually a modified lawn sweeper platform might be better than a mower.

A small version of this band saw set up in front of the sweeper would be a pretty sweet combo. Maybe use a small electric motor and hook it up to a battery and inverter (i already have the battery and inverter).

For all the effort they put into that thing, you'd think they would build it so they wouldn't have to bend over in that contorted position to use it. A longer handle and some wheels perhaps.
