On my PE Neo 1.6 I notice the door latch rubs a little bit, it is at least less smooth than when initially installed. Can't find a picture of the exact model but its similar to this: Should I be greasing the contact point on the latch? If so what kind of high temperature grease is appropriate. On hand I have gun grease so I suspect I may have to go find something else.
Never seize works...graphite powder can too, but can be messy (the NS can be too if not careful!) and I've also heard of people using cooking spray (like PAM)
I even tried gear oil once. Man did that stink up the house. high temp caliper grease cooked off. It’s just a hot place. The powder might be best.
Eghads!! Husband used that in his 79' Blazer, unforgettable. Other one was we used Penofin on our back deck and oak front door, that stuff reeked for years when the sun hit it. Hope yours went away much sooner.
it doesn’t stay grease very long and burns off to a powder. Leaves a mess too. Not a bad option because even the powdered antiseize is slippery.
Standard aluminum or copper based anti seize is good for that 1800*F range, but nickel based takes it to roughly 2600*F...usually doesn't cost much more either. I keep both copper based and nickel based around, but use the nickel much more...
Absolutely. Turns to a powder coating which is likely what stops seize and offers some lubrication similar to a graphite powder.
There was some discussion awhile ago about what to use on brake caliper pins. I suggested not using antisieze and got an earful. Anyway no need to beat that horse.
I have used graphite powder with good luck. My old stove used to squeak loud when I opened the door. I used the graphite powder and it was whisper quiet after that. There is also a product that is graphite aerosol spray. Spray it on and air dry.
