I did this to mine about 8 years ago. I just got back into the wood pile after a 7 month brake (hot azz summer and other projects took priority) and I had some prefect sized logs for this operation with the grapple. I'm so used to having it that I simply forgot about it or mentioning it previously.

Now this probably wont work with the rounded bottom type or shape grapples, but for my style it's so simple. 20201121_092131.jpg
You can see that # 8 or 10 (that's 1" or 1 1/4") rebar that the log is up against.

    The rest of the story.

Adjustable height cutting for as heavy or long of a log your machine can handle leaving only about 3' left in the grapple to cut "the other way".
I had to make some small brackets to mount the bar to, but its one of those things that once you see it, it's so obvious that you'd think they'd build it in to the grapple from the factory. I have driven logs out of the woods this way when I didn't have the width available to haul it sideways, although it does make for a long tractor.

It's also handy for limbing .

Once you see it...obvious right! Should be pretty easy for a set of forks. I could see even making it a device you slip on the forks with a pair of tubes that have both lifting points (front & rear) and being able to return the forks to normal by (maybe) un hooking a chain.

Pretty clever!!! I like it:thumbs: Once I get the pallet garage done I hope to start some welding projects including my 3 pt sawbuck which will be especially useful for multiples of smaller diameter stuff.

This sparked an idea for me too!

I have the everything attachments grapple. It has precision cut holes in the back vertical ribs.

After reading your idea, I went out to the shop and drug out the piece of schedule 80 I’ve been saving.

Looks like this will work and bonus prize helps protect the awesome plastic grill that Kubota stuck on front of my tractor.

The only bad and that’s not terrible is I can only fit about an 8” diameter log under it. I may source something smaller and use the top set of holes. That would make an opening for about a 10” round.

What's the spacing between your 6? vertical back pieces?
There may be more space than 8" and the top square tube can "catch" the end of a log. I only have about 8-9" between my equivalent parts and it was difficult to see well enough to get a small log in there. That's why I needed to add that bar.
You may not need to do anything

I have 10 inches between ribs.
I remember trying to do what you do and the log would “ droop” too much. I’m going to revisit the idea.

I do like the idea of protecting the front of the tractor. I’ve been thinking of welding diamond mesh on the back of the grapple or on the factory brushguard. But it’s only been 5 years like this so why rush...

Even if you curl up the grapple?
I'd be more inclined to modify your grill guard for protection.
