If anyone needed another reason to do what we do. $650 per cord should do it. Posted before the weather and after it was going to be a sure thing. Updated daily. Anyone else have craziness in your part of the world? Owl
$100 'ain't what it used to be'. Not defending, just understanding that firewood prices should increase with everything else, right? I have some wood listed that is higher than anything in my area. Not because I'm looking to take advantage...quite the opposite honestly. (it's not $400/half cord lol)
Thats nuts! I know hardwoods are scarcer in the PNW but how rare is WO it to justify that price? In the right market im sure there's folks that wouldnt blink at that price. If i were to offer wood for that much it would be a lot "cleaner" thats for sure. My prices are higher than the going rates here but not gouging. They get the true amount and the wood is dry too. The two most common issues with firewood sellers.
I don't think the Cord Lord is too out of wack; plenty of other sellers in the area if one thought he was excessive. His non-white oak is much cheaper. He posts a lot of ads on CL like someone else I am familiar with. As I have said before: chainsaws, splitters, trucks, fuel, parts all cost about the same everywhere across the country. $300-400 a cord is less than minimum wage after expenses and depreciation. Those that produce their own heating firewood with equipment they already own don't understand the full expenses required to get that split into a customer's wood rack. My forestry property goes for about 7,500-10K an acre. And I expect to reap what that land produces just like a full time farmer would if he was growing wheat, corn, soybeans, etc. And if you have to hire help for producing and delivering, then the economics of firewood really sucks.
Don't knock him if he's getting it. As you all know a ton of work goes into processing firewood and then you have to sit on it to season. The more times you touch, it the less you make per hour.
Besides farming, can't think of too many other jobs that require you to bust your butt 12 hours a day and then wait 9-12 months to get paid for your efforts. And yes, there are many alternative ways to heat your home. Fortunately, the majority of my customers are paying for what produces the best flames without price consideration.
Despite what you read of the homelessness and substance abuse problems in Portland, there are wealthy areas too. There are crazies on craigslist everywhere.
I split 3 cords on Sunday. That would be nearly 2k. I would take the week off and split another 10. Lol. I got mad that wood went to 3-350 here and started doing my own. Use to get 3 for 500$ now no one does bulk deals. Just there set price no matter how many u buy and for how long u been buying it from them.
Were they the correct amount? I often wonder as ive seen so many folks get shorted and are amazed at the "volume" of my half cord load. Had a couple customers in the valley have that happen to.
Yes sir. Was the guy along 95 in Fairfield. Great guy really nice. Actually gave me probably 1/2 cord more. Now it is what it is. Oh well. Now I have my gym membership in my backyard. Lol.
$650.00 for a cord seems like a steal when you see Lowes selling 10 splits in a bag for over $1.00/ split. I saw a man on Sunday with 2 bags in his cart. I was going to tell him that he could come to my house and I would sell him as many splits he wanted for .99 each.
