I picked up the Husqvarna splitting maul and carpenters axe I used them for a bit and I am impressed with how great they handle I plan to get the whole set I love that they are hand forged !! The carpenter axe is a kindling beast And the splitting maul seems to need much less Energy to do it's job Almost forgot the pics
That Husqvarna splitting maul looks especially inviting. If I'm not mistaken Wetterlings makes all of the Husky branded axes, hatchets & splitting mauls,so you know they're quality items. TreeStuff.com has it for $88.95,cheaper than any other retailer I've found. Its free shipping when your order totals $100 or more,I'm sorely tempted to splurge on that & grab an extra chain when my tax refunds arrive in about a week.....
Correction - Bailey's has it for $74.96,a 25% discount off the list price. With $9.99 UPS Ground, that makes it $84.95. I'll be ordering it soon, hopefully the sale lasts another week.
That maul looks very similar to a Wetterlings. I have Wetterlings and love it. Best splitting device I've ever run across. I have the Husky hatchet. It's an excellent tool. I would think the axe would be just as nice.
Mine arrived from Bailey's today. Was on back order for 2 weeks.Havent used it yet but will soon.Looks great, very well made.Has a nice oiled hickory handle & leather sheath also.
I'm with you! Can't recall how many handles I broke on my grandad's maul, starting out at 12 years old!!! He was pretty gentle about it- but I felt the shame! Miss him dearly.... EricVW
