My dad stopped by today to help me unload a maple syrup evaporator I just bought from my neighbor. (I’ll get to that.). The topic of my wood hoarding came up. :D It hadn’t really occurred to me for a while... What do you mean?

We were discussing my plans for the new pole barn I want to have built this year, sort of taking the lay of the land and such. I think his main concern was just about the amount of work that lay ahead of me if I want to build it in the best, most logical place for it. Which is, basically in line with the existing garage. Problem is, I’ve got all this wood in the way. Needs to go about here:

Actually the stump is probably right about the far corner of it. But that means it has to go too. It’s a little bit low there, so I’m going to have to bring in some fill and have it all re graded on that side of the garage. Here’s a few more pics of what that looks like:

Except for my saw logs in the first pic, the rest is all firewood I need to process or move before summer. 2018 is looking like a supreme year for the cord hoard! :saw::axe::stack:

Rent or borrow a loader tractor or skid steer...have that moved in one day.

Now then...your old man wasn't implying a hoarding intervention or anything crazy, was he?! ;)

Build the pole barn around the logs that way that are already inside when done. Process when needed and pour concrete floor when barn is empty.

That would work! Might have some ruts to fix...
I took a 60' Gradall across my yard one summer when it was really dry and the ground was hard...still had ruts to fix! Those things are heavy!
EX: We used to rent a 125' JLG at work once in a while...one time the rental place delivery driver was late, when he finally showed up, he explained that he had to go the long way to avoid the scales...he was overweight! From one lil ole 125' JLG manlift! :startled:

    Oh yeah
My buddy had to repair his driveway after taking down a few trees with a 125'.
They pulled it up to the house and reached over the house to cut trees in the back yard:jaw:

I can see why the concern about your hoarding obsession. That's some awesome firewood you have waiting to process.

I remember some of those wood piles and thought at the time it would only get worse before getting better. But you'll be happy when you get the pole barn up.

I stopped today to get a price on another barn.

So here’s another full time project. It’s been a couple years since I’ve tapped my maples, mostly because I couldn’t keep up with boiling all the sap. I’ve been planning on building a homemade evaporator, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. So I bought one.

My neighbor, Paul with the LT40 sawmill, had told me he had one for sale. I took a look at it this weekend and it ended up following me home. He said he only used it 4 times. Between him and his dad, they have over 200 taps so they ended up buying a larger unit. I think it’s going to be just about perfect for me.

Amy and I put 20 taps in this weekend and collected 40 gallons as of today.

We’ve got a little warm snap happening right now, so I didn’t want to store it. Luckily, I’ve got a wood fired evaporator now which just so happens to hold around 40 gallons quite nicely. So I fired her up for the first time tonight. :MM: Nice night for it too. :)

I’ve been feeding it mostly locust, cause it was nearby and I wanted to fire it as hard as I could as a test and so I’m not up all night on a week night. I’ll probably work on cleaning up some oddballs and uglies this weekend.
