image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg So i have been trying to get my hands on some okie platinums. This hear ive burned 180 bags of okie golds, 15 spruce pointe, and 8 awf wp left over from last year; still have 120 bags of okie golds. Ive been wanting to try the okie platinums and or doug fir. Been stopping at a local pellet shop weekly. He kept saying maybe next week he was short on them. Well today i bit the bullet and bought a whole ton of the platinums to try them out.

Nice one. Interested to know how you like them compared to the others you have burned this season.

daffonce...the place you bought your Okies from just placed a very large order with us ...so you will start to see them stock up starting in March for the coming year...all three of our brands...they won't see a shortage of our product this year....again, thanks for your support..

Curious to hear how they burn. I burned one ton of Gold's this year. The TrueValue near our place in SoVT had a ton of the Platimums this weekend; selling by the bag for $7.99 each. That's $400 per ton! But not sure if they were cheaper if you bought a full ton vs. bags.

My local CT stove guy had the DougFir: $9.40 a bag. Eek!

Just as a FYI...I DO NOT set retail pricing...each store does that as they feel what their market will bear...simple supply and demand this time of year...dm

Makes sense to me. The stove store I use is a local place. I believe they order pellets based on what the customers are buying. I don't believe they order 250 tons in the fall and then sell them off throughout the season.

So my impression are that the platinums have a lighter more fluffy ash than the golds. The ash is very similar to spruce pointes and lacretes which i have burned. The volume is higher than the golds. There is less clumping than the golds so less maintenance of the burn pot is required. The heat is better than the golds i feel and seem similar to the spruce pointes. Id choose platinum spruce pointe gold then awf wp in that order from what ive burned this year. Id say the upton bagging plant is using better bag material now than earlier in the season although the bags at the begining of the year was sturdy, i didnt break a single one storing 6 tons. But the platinum bag feels even thicker.
