As most know, I've had some surgery recently. Thought it would be easy and a fairly quick recovery. But there have been some problems and I still have way too much pain along with still having to use 2 crutches. I feel I should be down to one crutch or just a cane by now.

I've had both hip replaced and neither of them gave any big problems and within 2 months I was doing pretty much anything I wanted. Expected close to the same thing but perhaps drug out some as this was much more than a normal replacement.

So, after viewing x-rays and talking to the doctor he caught on that I was a bit upset that this is taking so long. It was then he told me this will be a 6 month recovery period!!! I remember him telling me it would take a bit longer to recover but never thought it would be this long.

The big thing first is to get the pain under control which is proving to be bothersome. Also walking is going much slower than before as I'm only up to 1/4 mile per day along with other activity. Nuts. My wife thinks I'm doing lots but I do not feel that way. Still, on the bright side, I can notice some improvement week by week. Still can't tie my shoes. Still put my socks on with a little helper they provide. Use a long handled grabber a lot.

Worse is the fact that I need to be hanging tree stands. Now it is doubtful I'll even be able to climb a tree. I hate that... Also I can't do jobs that require one to be on 2 feet with hands free. That means things continue to be put off around the homestead. Nuts.

Thankfully I have a wonderful if ornery wife that helps a lot....a whole lot. Not sure what I'd do without her. But she is getting swamped and told me just yesterday that she is still worried and hates to go off working somewhere and leaving me alone. Thinks she has to be picking up everything I drop, I guess. But, berries still have to be picked and other things have to be done. Guess she will have to do them until I heal.

    Okay. Rant over.

Definitely frustrating Dennis, when you've been as active as you are/have been.
    Take time to heal.
I still have little aches and pains in my forearm from early '09, and the hernia surgery last fall. I figure I'll never be quite the same.
    Still better than the alternative.

I hope you start progressing faster that you have so far.

If there's another way to get out hunting, other than a tree stand, you might want to have another option. Ground blind?

Sorry Backwoods Savage . Seeing chores undone knowing you are not able is an evil pill to swallow. Do you best with self imposed expectations and letting others help :)

Not one thing on your list of things to do is more important than you healing. No doubt for you, shifting from doing everything... to nothing... is driving you nuts. It's a big club. Lots of folks on FHC who know how hard it is too. Hang in there. Stop making lists, unless it's a list that says, stop making lists... ;) Relax... and you'll be well sooner.

And now for the other guys story. My 70 year old uncle who has been active and athletic all his life had both knees done, one at a time, and had no problems and fast recovery. He just had his hip done and is in your boat Dennis, pain and not feeling right and walking with cane or walker. I seen him the other day at a family party and he said they have to go back in and redo it! What a kick in the pants.
I guess what I'm saying is we are all different and things happen. After meeting you and your ornery wife at Dexters I can say you'll make it through this tough time.
Ok my reply to your rant is over. :D

I hope you start to heal faster. If I were closer, I'd come hang your stands, but if it's that painful for you to do daily things, I personally think a pop up ground blind or 2 should be used this year to avoid climbing trees.

Your frustration is understandable considering the very industrious productive person you are, Dennis. I feel bad about the pain this causes ya and can only offer that the situation is a temporary setback. You will heal. I don't know the doctor but it seems he could have been more straightforward about the recovery time going into it.
My MIL spent her last 6 months of life with us (terminal cancer) and she felt guilty for us doing things for her she couldn't. I had to remind Irene that she spent her life doing for others . Caring for her siblings as a kid, then her parents. Keeping her husband going along and her own kids on the straight & narrow. A whole life of doing for others but now it was her turn for others to return, in a small way, do for her.
I'm not saying you're anyway near the end Dennis -far from it in fact- but you deserve this break. Judy is awesome.

Wishing you the best Backwoods Savage! That sure is a long recovery, but you'll be back in shape soon. I would assume that just getting the pain under control would be a HUGE help! Everything in the rest of your recovery will be easier if you can get that done.
I'm with the others! Maybe a nice ground blind and a comfy milk crate wouldn't be too bad an idea this season.
    Take care of yourself!!

    Pete

No doubt if I hunt archery it will have to be on the ground this year. Rifle I always use a blind so no problem there...if I can handle the rifle. Haven't tried yet. Last year I could not handle the 308 but could use the 3030. Will do the same if I have to this year. But, just in case, I got out some stands and just hung them down low in the yard. This is something I usually do around August 1 every year. However, as I was hanging them I felt weird knowing it may all be in vain.

Yes, thank God for my wife.

    Thanks fellas and gals.

For sure the frustration is getting to me. That's why I just sat down at the computer and the redhead fixed me a very nice beverage. A little on the stout side but tastes great!

Just stay away from the pain meds if you're partaking in certain "beverages".:rofl:
