Goodbye sweet Ms461. The arguably the finest saw ever made, definitely the best in the 70cc class. Stihl USA no longer has the 441 or 461 on their website.

I was truly hoping the 462 only replaced the 441. And, that the 461 would still be available until the 500i came out. The 462 looks awesome for weight but it's smaller in the displacement department( 4.5 cc's probably doesn't matter). Watching newer youtube videos the 461 still spanks the the 462 when they're sup'd up.

They should have called it the 442 since they cut displacement. It's a closer replacement for the turd known as the 441. ( I only had experience with the early models)

I'd like to do that. I'm sad the finest saw ever isn't being made anymore

They don't have a replacement in their line up?
I'm still running my 044 with the assumption that if it ever gets "terminal" I would be able to get it's younger brother with one of those "new fangled" model number that don't start with a 0 :BrianK:

Yes they do. It's only 72cc though. It's super lightweight for the power it makes too but the 461 has way more potential

Yesterday morning I was picking up some chains and a few miscellaneous items from the local stihl shop/jd dealer, he said the 500 should be arriving in jan 2020 there

The only thing I'll miss about it is the price.

what will the 500 model feature? I own a 460. How is the 461 different than a 460?

500i is 80cc and fuel injected like their cutoff saws. The 461 has the intellicarb, crankcase and top end are a bit different, is a strato saw, and 3 pole ignition coil

Is the 462 available yet?? I think it's silly to discontinue the 461, almost everyone who has a 461 seems to love it.

Correct. Delayed scavenging, uses exhaust gases for the increase in fuel efficiency. Doesn't use the same plumbing as a true strato. Its quad port and achieves the same effect. Just not a true strato that we're used to seeing. Heck stihl even advertised it as a strato saw.

But I know what you're saying

It is. And it's not silly. Its fricking challenged. Greatest saw ever made and they throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's still advertised on stihl international

ETA. I knew the site changed curse words i get that but not the R word in MRDD. That seems silly. Euphemism treadmill. My apologies.

My Stihl reps ( unfortunately) told me the 500i release was pushed back and 2020 is accurate.
