The rodent saw his shadow so those folks who also saw their shadow have 6 more weeks of winter. On the other hand, There will be no shadows today here because it is snowing. Of course this, for us means spring will be here in only 6 more weeks! Figure that one out.
I think groundhawg day is just because people have cabin fever this time of year, and looking for another excuse to drink to something!
mostly dry in July Aug Sept, but that has been changing of late. Last Aug SEWI got dumped on creating all kinds of flooding . Oct Nov it starts to rain quite a bit. Just kind of steady not big deluges. 2025 didn't exactly follow the norms. Hey its Wisconsin we can have all 4 seasons in one day. late 70's early Nov. took the pups out for some bird hunting , started out at apx 40F by apx 11am it was 75+F, clouds rolled in temps started dropping then rain, turned to hail/freezing rain mix temps dropping fast. Wind came up snow coming down all most a white out temps still dropping pups having a hard time , had to carry the youngster just about 9 months old at the time. Finally got to car, frozen shut, dogs soaking wet me to, clothes freezing up, got car open got it started took 2 hours to get back home ( normally a 30 min ride) Got so cold engine never warmed up. I was starting to have thermal problems. -10F by time I got home. Never had an experience like that since.
I think I heard today he's 40% accurate. We've been having one of the longest cold stretches I can remember in a long time. Barely got over the low 20's the past week or so and not looking any better this week. Although we might get above freezing tomorrow.
Guy I used to work with was a great cook, always said he could make delicious groundhog stew...never did it while I was there though...
