A week ago a feller stopped and talked to my sister who was piling brush near the road within sight of my stacks. Want more wood?
Long story short I decided it’s time to start collecting again. Mostly beech, some black birch, little maple, possibly some hickory. Mostly smaller trees, not the usual monsters I enjoy. About 4 miles away, all backroads, my favorite. No tailgate needed. My first beech, I’ll take it. Guys clearcutting a few acres to grow deer food.
I think most of this wood will be for sale. Might as well make a few bucks on the hobby.
    Got two loads today.

Sweet trailer for hauling the score home! Is that a log arch you have setup on it? Every day is a great day for the beech:rofl:

Yep, of sorts. Not one of those swinging ones. Personally I think those are too dangerous. Basically just a picking point. Works well for me.

Saves me needing to load rounds. Push button is always nice LOL
This’ll give ya an idea of what I do. Pic is halfway point. First hoist up one end, then go half way for safety. Small stuff you could grab at the end right away but that’s a green hickory log sliding around on smooth skin black birch. Smaller bites is better than crushed by a swinging log.

Nice get. If you end up selling the bulk of it, save at least a stove load of the beech to try for yourself. I’d hoard just as much of that stuff as I would black locust.

Sure do. Found a black locust patch yesterday that Brad has driven by multiple times :) Tsk Tsk Brad, your slipping.
Just got back from retrieving my completed taxes. Took a little detour down some backroads I haven’t been on for awhile. Another huge patch of Black Locust. All going into my memory banks for when I have more time :)

I’ll certainly try some. He said there’s more coming. He’s very happy with the progress. Told me to take my time and leave anything I don’t want. My kind of guy LOL

Have a beech question: The smaller branches,,,I’m not really into branches. Does beech dry well if not split? I’m thinking it’s a lot like black birch that really needs the skin broke to dry before it rots. Any opinions out there?

Did you purchase the trailer in that configuration or did you modify it yourself. The tongs make it even better:yes:

Beech is some of the best firewood I think it is underrated. Don't get much of it but will take all I can get.

Brad didn’t take the bait. Junction of 66 and 151 in Cobalt. There’s a few scattered behind that tiny strip mall but heading west just after the light,,,,Locust Mania!!! :)

Good to know, thanks. Maybe I’ll buck up the little stuff right there. The tongs are designed for bigger stuff, should get a small set.

Boy, that didn’t take long:rofl:  @buZZsaw actually came to mind for me earlier today when I was splitting at my buddies house. First we split up the stuff stacked by his barn, then we moved to a pile the county dropped off from a job near his house. Buddy threw a round up on the splitter and as soon as it opened up, I saw that it was buZZsaw BRAD favorite....black locust. I’ve only had the chance to handle that stuff a couple times, so I made sure to tell my buddy about what he had!
