So we had a goat get sick not too long ago. She made it through but lost a lot of weight and hasn’t put it back in yet. This recent cold we’ve had hasn’t been good for her and she took a turn today and couldn’t walk. We even had a heat lamp on her and it didn’t help. She wasn’t able to get up this morning so she got a free pass in the house. Looks like we will be nursing a goat back to health in the living room until it warms up a bit. Got down in the single digits most of this week. And Friday is gonna be really cold. I think Friday’s high is only 6.

A smart goat for sure, nestled right next to the fire. Is your goat house trained yet?;)

Have had a few litters of pups in the house, a stray calf or so like with your situation due to weather conditions and lack of good body condition of the animal. Kittens, rabbits, no foals, even a goat. The baby goats we used an old play pen to keep them corralled. Good luck.

I hope she gets better. Good thing you opened your home up for her. She may not want to leave after awhile

Unfortunately not, I put down a tarp first to catch any drippings or wet spots

You have a good heart. The only thing I would suggest, is find another metal crate or two to block off the stove, in case rammy gal pushes any straw towards the stove.:)

You can tell that goat doesn't feel good. Next time try warming her up from the inside. Mix up a concoction of warm water and Karo syrup. The warm water and sugar will give her an energy boost. Probably have to tube her, chances are she won't drink enough to make a difference. If you don't have a drenching gun or tube, at least get a pop bottle full, open her mouth, tilt her head back, and pour it down her throat. If she's still alive this morning, pump her full of Nuflor or some other quick acting antbiotic. Bad setup for pneumonia to bring them into a high heated area like that. Good luck.

I hope your goat makes it. For centuries, man has had animals in the house to protect them, keep them warm and look after them. We have just gotten away from it in the last century.

Goats, pigs, calves. Sometimes we do what has to be done.

It's great that you take care of her.
That's why my hubby won't let me have goats.
