I know I'm asking a biased crowd here but here it goes. Yuppie stepson and his wife (both very yuppified) as I came into the picture too late to be much of a influence. They are getting a new house with a little more room and yard. They do however have backyard fires and occasionally go camping amazingly but live out of state. I don't want to be too hickish but knowing they do enjoy fires and trying to encourage anything that gets them outside with the granddaughter, would it be too here goes the Hillbilly of the family of a housewarming gift idea to find a reputable firewood dealer and buy them a 1/2 cord C/S/S & delivered? They currently suffer through bundles of gas station wet wood. I would contemplate just bringing them some of mine but being it is a 7 hour one way drive into another state with EAB and firewood transportation restrictions it just seems like a much easier way to do it using a local guy and would help out a fellow wood cutter. Yes, No, Maybe, or OMG that guy is a hick?

Moving firewood that far would not be something I would want to do regardless if restrictions or not. Of the 2 options you have given the second seems the better choice. How about a face cord rather than half? Perhaps a member on this forum might live close to them and could help.

They would need a rack, and cover, to put the wood on.

Local to them firewood would be the way to go.

If they were 7 hours in our direction, from you, that would be a 19 hour drive for me.
Kinda puts us out of the running...

Sounds like a good idea, as long as you think they would appreciate it and take care of it. Meaning what MikeInMa said, rack and cover.... not let it go to waste.

Most definitely a biased crowd here.

I think you already know the answer to the question you asked...just because of the yuppie title.

"Yes, No, Maybe, or OMG that guy is a hick?"

I'm going with "no" on the firewood as a housewarming gift....for them. As MikeInMa pointed out, they'll need a rack, cover, etc. Maybe for them, that occasional (rare) fire while camping is frequent enough for them to enjoy.

How's about just getting them some fire pit accessories? You know, roasting forks, pudgie pie makers, maybe a custom make fire poker?

Ok, the hot dog and marshmallow holder probably crosses the line into "hicksville"!!!

All great ideas! If you are already making the trip I’d consider bringing a pickup load with and building or buying them a rack. Maybe you could find some free would near them and CSS when you get there.

If that doesn’t work like others said buy a load for them or check for a fellow hoarder near buy. if their paying $7 a bundle at the gas station I’d think they would appreciate a truck load of good firewood.

I second Dakota Hoarder ‘s statement- “All great ideas!”
The style of the rack would need to be considered against whom it is going, for one. The Yupps might like wrought iron? A cedar shingled roof as the top cover? :hair: A WiFi booster and charging station (solar, of course) :headbang:

A fire pit tool set is probably the safest and most economical gift choice (good suggestion yooperdave )...

    Good thread Greenstick

I was going to ask what state and see if we did have a member to help them out. But would they stack and cover once they got it to keep it dry?

I like the pudgie pie idea. My youngest son just got engaged. He and his fiance go camping just about every weekend. Also seen where you could get recipe books.

I’m not 100% certain that I know what a yuppie really is ( pretty sure I’m ok with that). But yuppie & camping are two words that don’t seem like they should be in the same sentence.

May not seem like they could go together but if you saw the level of glamping achieved you'd understand. But at least they take time to be outside and off screen with my granddaughter so we take what we can get.

Who cares what they think? Those who matter don't mind, those who mind don't matter and all that.
