Since I gave my new neighbor my old General Tools Moisture meter (the old type) since he really did need one, I decided I couldn't do without one. Well, the old ones on Amazon have skyrocketed in price ($52 to $80+), but I noticed a newer model with the same number model number listed at $28 plus change. So I ordered one to give it a try. General Tools MMD4E Moisture Meter, Pin Type, Digital LCD - - Amazon.com The newer model had a calibration tester inside the cap which should read in the area of 18.3% according to the manual. To me that's a plus. There are three lights, blue for low moisture, green for mid moisture, and red for high moisture. The thing I noticed was at 16% the red light comes on and beeps indicating high moisture. And it also has the digital read out for both "Wood" and "Building Materials". It also comes with a spare set of stainless steel pins and 9v battery. So if your in the market for a new moisture meter, this is one that might be considered. AND, it could make for a great stocking stuffer!
