I seem to have an issue with loosing caps. The caps just stay on with minimal resistance, so they fly off in the wind I guess. I've had a few get lost from just being in the bed of my truck. Been using fingers cut off nitrile gloves to slip on but gas seems to eat them up after a week or two. Ideas?
I tried whittling some wood to stick in the hole but there is a vent tube so it doesn't work. Need a round hole.
Tying the cap somehow is a good idea and maybe you could do it so the tie pulls the cap closed all the time. My gas issue is I can't seem to stop filling a tank before I get to the top. I just have to dump a half gallon on the floor and all over the machine when I fuel up. Gotta get that full doncha know...
The caps pop off when the fuel vaporizes in the heat - pressurizes the can. I've found them laying in the other side of the garage when the sun is rising just right through the doorways. When traveling in the back of the truck I just take them off and tie the cans off - and never fill them slap full, turn the nozzle upwards during travel
Yup, there you go, let em vent just a little. Only need a 1/6" hole to keep the tank from building pressure.
Corks or rubber stoppers. Available at HD, Lowes and Menards. Bring your spout with you to the store.
Caps? What are those? Lost em a long time ago. Now I do what stinny does. Turn the spout up when traveling and only fill the 2.5 gal can with 2 gal.
I have those first gen epa tanks with the glucking nozzle and the tiny top hat looking yellow cap. I have those things on when the tank has rounded with so much fuel vapor on a tank and not blow off from pressure...yet. there is a little lip that the top hat hooks under to give it more than just a friction fit. Now a days there so many kinds of nozzels and replacements and kind of tanks its hard to know which ones your referring too. I know the kind I have can't be bought anymore and I guard them pretty close including the yellow cap!!
You can find all kinds of replacement caps on eBay, then epoxy some string or heavy fishing line to can n cap
