Back in the day, about '99 B.W.K, I had a sweet yellow/gray Yamaha Banshee. I always used Klotz super techniplate @ 20:1. Quad ran great and the stuff smells killer. After I sold the quad, I still had oil left over and decided to use it in my leaf blower, a stihl sh85. Took it to local dealer(running real sluggish, hesitating),they called me the next day and said the screen was plugged(had no idea what he was talking about) and I owed $35 and come pick it up. Counter man explained the screen being plugged, then went on to say that they had saved my blower! I asked how and he proceeded to tell me how it had straight gas in it when I brought it in and the technician had noticed immediately and dumped it out, saving my engine. I then explained the klotz scenario and he gave me a look like I was full of it and said to wait a minute. He brings out the mechanic and I explain to both once more that I understand how two strokes work and that I was using up the techniplate. The amused tech laughs and says I don't know what I'm talking about and that he still has it in a bowl out back. I then asked if they wanted to make a friendly wager and they agreed. I said how about $20 each? Tech laughs and says ok hope you brought some cash. We go out back and there's my premium/klotz gas on his bench, slightly red in color but looking kinda like straight gas. I say let's dump out your gas and put mine back in and I'll run it for you guys. One you smell the klotz you'll know it's not straight gas. They say ok but we are not responsible for you blowing it up, I say no problem. After he drains and refills I fire it up and pizz-rev it for a minute, smelling that sweet smell of klotz "racy red". Tech then proceeds to try to weasel out by saying it is straight high octane "race" fuel, and neither will pay up. I gave them a few choice words (younger, dumber) as I'm leaving and I even pointed out the stuff, they had some on the shelf! Needless to say I've NEVER been back
No posts yet. But lots of looks... And lots of likes. Sometimes those techs amuse me. I asked a dealer about a decomp for an 026. He proceeded to tell me (laughing), that a decomp was never on an 026. So I said "I'm sorry, I meant the 026 Pro". He continued to laugh and said there still wasn't one on there!! He eventually looked it up and found it. But I never placed the order after I found it. Just made me mad. Good for you, for doing what you did. Sometimes it's best to show them that sometimes, they don't know it all.
One of my best vehicles had a quirk. In hot temps if you were accelerating while running the a/c and tried to use the cig lighter or plug in a phone charger in, it would die instantly (standard tranny). It wasn't worth the $$ to investigate the problem, and it was very easy to pop the clutch as it only happened when in motion. I just learned to not do all 3 things simutaneously I traded it in. Soon after, on a hot afternoon I returned to my office that was off the highway, and there sat my beloved ol 4x4 at the entrance to my office. I spoke the both the dealership that resold it and the tow truck driver telling them its a split second problem and please tell the owner or give them my phone number to get in touch with me. Neither of them followed through either, just like your experience. Go figure.
I love how you say back in the day, and the year is 1999. Sadly that was 15 years ago. Pretty close to being back in the day. . 99 Red Ballons. Jason from RI
Years ago when I was in school I used to install remote starters, alarms, car stereos, etc. A guy brought back a car we put a keyless entry in and said every time he gets a call on his cell phone (this was when normal sized cell phones first got popular) the doors would lock and he has locked himself out a few times. We gave him the yeah f ing right look but entertained it. Went out to the car with him and while we talked his phone rang and bam! the doors locked. Moral of the story is I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially in my current career.
Forgot the golden rule: here it is This thing runs just as good today as when it was new, and I've used it every fall since it was new. Plugged screen is the only issue it's ever had, and I blame that on the klotz. Never happened since then. Keep the stories coming, I had forgotten about mine until I was reading an oil thread on here
