Full-beam vs Half-beam log splitter

    Pros & Cons when buying a splitter and comparing features/cost. What are *your* thoughts? Just trying to learn from other's experience here.

    More iron = stronger. I have also heard the trunion mount cylinders have had some issues breaking at the mount.

    Thanks fifelaker. I wondered if the extra steel made for a longer life or less vibration. It's still probably situational depending on the actual unit design. What kind of unit do you own?

    Overall design is much more important than beam length. A short beam flexes less than a long beam. The trunion mounts can be strong if designed properly, they have been used for many years on some large earth moving equipment.
    Most full beam splitters have changed very little from the original hydraulic splitter thrown together with scrap parts by some farmer 60+ years ago.
